We made a pair of ruby slippers recently, but due to other commitments, we didn't have time to post picture updates of our work like we used to, instead here are pictures of the finished product.
This pair of ruby slippers was made from a size 5B base shoes (Judy Garland's size).
The shape of the shoes is exactly identical to the "Witch's Shoes", known as the best pair Judy Garland as Dorothy wore in The Wizard of Oz. Unlike other screen-used pairs, this pair has pointy toes and sharp arch shank. The heels are made from solid wood and the shape and size match the original ruby slippers.
Nearly 5,000 sequins are hand-sewn onto the shoes using the same technique as the original ruby slippers. The right shoe features a stamped golden emboss label exactly like the originals reading "Innes Shoe Co. Los Angeles, Pasadena, Hollywood", and the ruby slippers are marked "#7 Judy Garland" on the inside lining.
Our ruby slippers are not just replicas, but actual wearable hand-sewn ruby slippers crafted to look brand new, in the same condition MGM made them for Judy Garland in the late 1930's. The sequining on this pair is perfect, everything is hand-sewn including the stones and beads on the bows.
To focus our attention and energy in running our business in Laos which is more profitable and time efficient for us than sewing all day on a pair of shoes, we won't be making many ruby slippers anymore, but we will try to make a pair once in a while.
