Teaching English in Laos

How is the pay and can you find work outside of Vientiane? I think I'll stay in Vietnam for a year and I'll try to learn the language and save a thousand dollars. But I like Laos more! I just don't know about employment opportunities in Laos!

Also, a question for peterpan: Are there any Vietnamese living in Xishuang banna? My goal is to learn  Chinese, Lao, and Vietnamese in the next 4-5 years and your town might be the best place to accomplish this!

Does anyone have information on English teaching positions in Laos? The government of Vietnam is making it very difficult for me to stay here and I'm thinking about relocating.

Because I work for myself from my computer as a freelancer at the moment and they pass a new law the very day I submit my passport for renewal. Because of incompetence at every stage along the way, my passport has now expired and it will be difficult for me to exit the country. The experience has left a bitter taste in my mouth as I will probably end up paying around $400 in fines and other expenses. Definitely going to choose Lao over Cambodia for many reasons. Only problem is my current line of work is limited and I need to find another job to cover my expenses.

My perspective on Cambodia is limited to my own personal experiences traveling there as a tourist and the experiences of others like me. In Cambodia, many people have strong sense of entitlement. I also met many people who had trouble with robbers and pickpockets and sketchy tuk-tuks. The overwhelming majority of Cambodians are great people but I feel the country is still a bit too chaotic for my liking.

Lao people and culture are my favorite in the world for a variety of reasons.  Smoking cigarette
