Homes are located very close to the road in Laos, even on highways where cars and trucks often drive over 100km per hour (60mph). Not only is it dangerous, but it can also be very noisy at night.

Accidents and fatalities are common in Laos because everyone shares the same road. There have also been instances of vehicles crashing into homes.

People living in small villages traveling on bicycles and motorbikes to school or work are always in danger of a speeding vehicle. My relative got killed on a highway in 2011 while riding back home to have lunch.

In the US you need permit from the city when you're trying to build or fixed your house.

Yes there are lower speed zones in residential areas but not enforced. You won't get pulled over by the police for speeding.

Homes right in front of the highway are there because it's good for business. It's easy for people to find you and stop by, particularly travellers on the road.

Sorry about your lost. Speed limit is not enforce that's not good. Does Lao police drove car or motorcycle?

When I was a child, hard to see any vehicle in my small town. We just ran after truck when it came by. Holy day!
