Go watch a real Lao movie like "Sabaidee Luang Prabang".

Sales are up, request to appear at Lao New Year festivals are up, request to produce a movie by several Lao people are up, song from the soundtrack video shot by Lao Bboy dance group (producer hired from Vientiane) nominated in the Luang Prabang film festival, networked with "Sabaidee" producers already they said good job, met producer Thavy Souk "good job Mychal"......hmmm. Girl isn't Lao? If her mom is Lao and grandparents are Lao then what does that make her? Thanks for negative comments it helps promote. Next...

This song is nominated as best dance video in this year's Luang Prabang Film festival. Dec 1st thru Dec 5th 2012. The nomination itself is a win.

Maybe she is Lao, but she must have African-American roots too.

You didn't give her dad a mention, I assume he is an African-American and her mom is a Laotian. Whether her mom is a full Laotian is also another matter.

Patting yourselves on the back doesn't count as a success. I can nominate myself as the king but doesn't mean I will be one. This movie didn't help Laos or its people in any way.

The girl is blacker than the midnight sky. It is an insult to Lao people to be portrayed as "black", they don't even like to be in the sun because they are afraid they will get dark and looked down upon as working in the fields and being low class and poor.

I am not racist agains black africans but when the movie says "Princess of Laos", I expect a Laos girl, not an imposter. This is like the other movies like "The Last Airbender" that got boycotted for its all white cast when the original has asians.

http://www.channelapa.com/2009/05/last-airbender-movie-boycott-paramount.html

You should really read the true reviews of real people to put this movie into perspective. I couldn't even finish watching the preview cause it was so bad. Calling her the princess of Laos is just a plain out insult cause I am a decendant of the Kings of Laos, my uncle was the King of Laos. You telling me this black biatch is a princess? Well fack me, cause I thought the royal family were mostly in France, that's where the rest of my uncles live.

Maybe you should ask Prince Soulivong Savang if he knows he has a long lost black sister. Maybe they should have done their research and history a little bit better if they are going to base this on a real story or even close to being the truth. I have a sister that could have acted the part better. I guess their won't be a sequel to this one.

People remember past princesses of Laos as white and beautiful. If you're a princess and you have dark skin, you'd be embarrass to show yourself in public.

I have black friends so I'm not racist either, but it's strange to have a dark-skinned girl playing the main role of a Lao princess when this is frowned upon in Lao society.

As Laos going for free market, this is going to happen again and again. Marketing tradition in untraditional way is a good deal to make money. Society is not frowned at dark skin, people will follow westerners to get tanned. You will see more beauties in rice field fishing just to get tanned. I am sure, next time, a tanned westerner will act as any laos hero. Get used to it and change your mindset. Socialist countries usually have the big shot movies.

Administrator just because you have "black friends" does not mean you are NOT a racist. You do prejudge as we all do but some of us don't post. Like the comment you said about some rapper having a three headed elephant or something, quote.... "they still living in the past". Now you post "people remember past princesses". You posted the trailer that brought the producer here. So now we are explaining. If you or anyone can show us where it says she is a real Princess I'll have him shut everything down. I would like to post a pic of her great grandfather who was an advisor for the late king's father. On another note your administrative duties are admired and appreciated. I'm sure its not easy. Job well done.

Peter Pan I'm sure you will appreciate a post like this one. Like I said I don't like Lao culture, I love it. Take note of the last four pictures of the leading actress' great grandfather and uncle.

Finally one of the things we are proud of is not the fact that Khamphan Pradith rubbed shoulders with royalty. When we asked if he would be a part of the project he said "Sure Mychal I'll be in your movie".

I'm judging the actress in the movie, and not black people in specific because I love all nationalities. I also didn't post any trailer.

Whether or not she is a real princess is not the issue, it's a movie so she doesn't need to be real. The controversy is her African or black American appearance which doesn't suit the role of a Lao princess.

She may have some Lao blood, but the impression people form of her is that she is a black American. The actress should have an Asian appearance because that's what Laotians are. It's like if an Asian girl played the lead role of Dorothy, a Kansas farm girl in The Wizard of Oz, it would look funny because she wouldn't fit in well with what the actual movie is about.

You guys are turning this into a racist debate. Racism exists as long as there are different races in this world, that is the fact. Being racist means you dislike a certain race just because of their race. We don't dislike this black actress, we dislike the fact that the movie and it's title are making a mockery of what it means to be a "Laos Princess". If you are a Lao person just like myself and the admin, you would understand why we feel this way. Some of us prefer our own Lao people, we are proud of who we are, it has nothing to do with being racist or prejudice so don't even play that shiet of a card. I live in multicultural america/canada, I've been discriminated against all my life so don't even talk to me about racism, I'm a victim of it but I deal with it. Everyone is entitled to their preferences, that is being human. I buy a certain color car cause I like how it looks, if I choose a black car does that mean I'm racist against whites or asians? Racism and discrimination is hating a person just because you hate the race, and not looking at them as an individual human being, learn the differences between racism an preference. What makes someone "not racist"? Can someone explain that to me? Seems like we have to "prove" that we aren't racist if accused, that is so stupid, we don't have to prove anything to you motha fackers. In your eyes, everyone is a racist but yourself, keep self honouring yourself if it makes you feel better.
The girl is clearly not what you can typically call "Lao". That is why there are so many negative comments and feedback. Do you know why the movie, "The King and I" got banned from Thailand? Same kind of shiet, people see it as disrespectful.
I don't even understand the point of this movie or why it was even made. There could have been so many more topics for a movie than this but I guess it's for the controversy to attract an audience. If this movie was dipicting a princess from a muslim country, the director would probably be dead by now. You lucky we buddhist are reasonable.

Bottom line is that my opinion of the movie is that it sucks, both for entertainment purposes and for what it try's to portray about Laos and its history.
Two thumbs down, and if I had a third thumb, it would also be down.

Next time title the movie appropriately like "Who's my real daddy?". No one wants their culture portrayed as whores who facked a black/white/asian guy from another race and abandoned the bastard kid and now they get to star in a movie out of sympathy.

"Society is not frowned at dark skin, people will follow westerners to get tanned. You will see more beauties in rice field fishing just to get tanned. I am sure, next time, a tanned westerner will act as any laos hero. Get used to it and change your mindset."

Society doesn't look down upon dark skin? Why do you think they sell whitening cream all over asia? Why do you think african americans were enslaved in the USA? Do some facking research before you open your mouth. Take a look at all the beauty pageants in asia, they are all light skinned. White people in western countries are the only ones that want to have a tan cause they are already light skinned. They can always return to being light skinned after a tan, others can't. When a white person gets a tan, it's usually to brag to others that they went somewhere tropical for a holiday for a good time. When an asian gets "dark" they get laughed at and looked down to. Can't even get a job cause they discriminate against you cause you are dark and not appealing. This is the truth about asian culture, I'm not trying to say it's bad, that's just how they are. Try selling a product with a dark skin person and you will see the reaction, it pays to do the research. Why should "we" have to change our mindset, there is nothing wrong with it, that's what we like, that's what we want, to each their own, but in Asia, they prefer to have light skin. I laughed when I read that there will be Lao beauty's in the rice fields fishing just to get a tan, that is total comedy. That's why everywhere I go I see umbrella's being used in the sun, everyone sitting in the shade or inside, girls wearing long sleeves cause they would rather be hot than get dark.

Hey admin, will I see you sun tanning next time in the rice fields, would you want to be dark skinned? I don't think there are even any dark skinned beer lao girls, they wouldn't get hired. Look at all the miss lao calendars to see what Lao people think of as beautiful. This is not a shallow view, it's the truth of what the culture prefers.
