It was Judy Garland's portrayal of Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz, walking down The Yellow Brick Road and singing "Somewhere Over the Rainbow," that made her famous as a teenager and catapulted her into the hearts of millions.

Judy Garland appeared in a total of 43 movies (from short subjects to full-length movies) to the adulation of millions of diehard fans who overlooked her roughening voice and her tardiness to concerts in later years. Sometimes she didn't show up at all, but her fans still loved her.
