I am still not getting these rap songs that are currently out there.  All they chant about are booze, chicks and sex and with no feelings for women.

Government only allow Lao hip hop in 2000. They monitor the music industry. You can't rap or say whatever you want. I like Lao rap because they don't say anything bad. It's also a good way to learn Lao. I'm pretty old too in my early 30's but still listen to rap.

Nothing wrong listening to rap at that age or any age overall, as long as you don't start changing your identity because of it. Smiley I see our Lao kids these days trying to be something they are not, by acting out and communicating through ghetto or gangster speech.  Let me clarify, if they were born here, I can understand and tolerate their behavior because they were influenced by the hip hop scene.  The ones I have problems with are the ones born elsewhere, moving here, and trying so hard to fit in, changing their whole identity and personality to be ghetto, or gangster.  You know where I'm getting at right? LOL

I am definitely 'old school' when it comes to music.  I mainly listen to glamour rock metal bands from the 80's and country music.  I thought Rap is dead already?

Are you referring to this type of behaviour:

Since I'm not from the US, is this how all the Lao boys really behave over there?

Or are they just acting for the music video?

No, not just music video, this is how many behave or act over here.  Some use this ghetto gangster excuse also to cause violence amongst others.  The crazy thing, you may know the phrase "nice guys finish last".  Well it's true,  many girls from rich or nice homes flock over many of these losers all the time.  When you hear news of death or cause of death it's mostly for this reason "girl dies because of jealousy involved".  What is it like in NZ?  Any of these pricks exist over there?

When I was younger I act like a little gangster, and listen to a gangster rap. Now I'm too old to act like that, but I like Lao Rap.

You sound scorned, Jack. Grin

These 'pricks' are over here too. And we have them in adundance! There are American copycat gangs everywhere. The Bloods, Crips, Hells Angels, Highway 69 etc. They sag their pants low enough to easily spy the residue of last nights dinner, in between the crevasse of their buttocks. If you know what I mean. Grin Their 'swagger' consists of robot-like mechanical movements: their shoulders - one after the other - move with the fluidity of a skier taking a stroll. Then there's also that sombre frown they walk around with! Very unapproachable. Most people do grow out of that futile lifestyle. However, the guys in that video look mid 20s/early 30s.

That lifestyle never appealed to you, Jack?
