Apologize bro, I mis-read your comments about the 'LOSER' part Grin.

Will we REALLY learn? That too forgiving 'bo ben nyung' mindset needs to go! Until we think properly, nothing will change. People - our neighbours, left AND right (We all know which two I'm alluding to) will continue to take advantage of us, because we are who we are. This is a cutthroat world. Nobody is out to make friends, where money is involved. This is the ambivalance I feel towards my own people: on one hand we are good, forgiving, peaceful race. Too good for a promotion. On the other hand, it also looks like we're stupid. We need to take a tougher stance. People only do evil to you if you let them.

While I'm on the subject:

How come I don't see any Lao people on the world stage?

Not many countries with a very small population like Laos have prominent people on the world stage.

The much more assertive and much larger population of Vietnam also don't have anybody on the world stage.

Can you name one? (Apart from Ho Chi Minh)

Growing up in American most of my life I has no clues about Laos history, past and present. Until I start doing some research. They say "knowledge is power."

Agreed. They don't want us to know, divide and conquer. Many younger generation does not know about our history. Isan is with Thailand, Laos is with Vietnam. Either way seem like we still get screws. For hundred of year since annexed Isan in 1906, they did a good jobs brainwashing Isan under Thailification. But Isan know who they are, and they're keeping Lao culture, tradition going.
Cool

Presently is 2011, there are many of our ppl are living aboard without land and country. We are lost people " Khon Lao" eating the sticky rice and PaaDaek. There are many of us can't return home due to the  Communist Laos had the Blacklist on them. Forgive Who? Who is right and who is wrong? Trust the Communist Laos as like you are playing with a Cobla ( One stike that all it take).

I used to have a nice big house and land in Vientiane. Its not mine no more. I never sell them or give it away to no one, why I can't have them back?  It just like the Gangster do a bussiness in US. You bussiness is my bussiness. That how the Communist Laos was did in past.

I had and still have home in Thailand. Its mine and still mine.Did you see what is different between Thailand and Laos?

Second class citizen in "Thailand" is better than No class in my own Homeland "Laos."

Isan is a little better off then many in Laos. But at least there's peace and stability in Laos. Lao government had open up the country and welcome Capitalist. Unlike North Korea or Cuba. Laos is moving forward and developing. It'll take time.

We do not need to on the 'world stage'. We are very humbled of what we have or not have.  We tend to follow and not lead and it is perferctly fine to follow.

Can you get your house/land back with your documents that you'd kept?

I'm also sick and tired of hearing excuses such as:

What, we can't go against the trend? Why do we have to settle for the status quo? The way things are at present, we'll be playing catch up forever! Our children need better role models! Our lazy parents just aren't as inspiring as they should be:'(

If giving an opportunity. Whatever you can do Lao can do it too. Right now there's less opportunity in Laos for younger generation. That's why they go look for work in Thailand. But thing are changing for the better. Only time can tell.

LaoCowboy There is no way I can get it back. Unless I want to buy it from them and I don't think I can afford it.
It just like a poker tournament : The winners take it all. The Losers have to go or been kill. Texas style that how the Commi Lao did.

Most ppl thought the Laos had been open up, but deep down inside it not. I have see my friends went there and run a small bussiness there, it doesn't last a year he had to come back to state for many bad reasons. Can't trust the Family, have to have  connection ( corruption officials to be on you side) too.  Before you can get the legal permit your pocket already ran out. Every things in Laos are more expensive than here(USA). I don't even can find a cheap stuff in Laos. Land in VT is very Expensive.

Can you give examples of something that is more expensive in Laos than the USA?  Gasoline is probably one of them.
