Thanks. I had Books 10 and 11 in the series translated into the Lao language and a Japanese NGO paid to print thousands of copies of them which a Lao children's charity (Action with Lao Children) then sent to every secondary school in Laos.

I even got interviewed on TV about one of the books (about Evolution). I think 6 or seven people may have seen the TV program - seems like nearly everyone here prefers to watch Thai TV.

Here are the two books that were sent to the schools.

How IS your pasa Lao, by the way. 20 years must be long enough.

Laos just needs to be more creative and come up with the goods when it comes to entertainment. Otherwise it's back to those Siamese lakorns. I remember when I was there, they used to have people perform in front of a bluescreen. Not an authentic experience, if you know what I mean.

I get by with my Lao - but it's not great by any means.

I was probably being unkind to Lao TV - they've improved it a lot in recent years.

I had used money gram before. Sending money to a relative in Vientiane. It's easy and more convenient.

How about another option? Perhaps you can create a Paypal account so we can send the donation to you directly? The money you receive you can purchase the item there. Wouldn't that be easier and cheaper? I have been using Paypal for years and they are very reliable, and convenient. I know there's Western Union and Money Gram but, they too are expensive.

Me and maybe Mrlao4ever are trying to send school supply to Old Man. He is volunteering and teach English to Lao kids for free. I spend more going out and drink beer, $50-$100 not going to broke my bank.

Lao Democratic, how much would it cost to send all these that you are getting over there? I have not done this before. I do not worry about the cost but wanted to have an idea so I can get more supplies as much as possible.

I found great deal at Wal-Mart for one pack of 76 pencil it cost only $4. I'll get at least 5 pack = 380 pencils and other school supply too.

I wrote this series of 12 graded, illustrated, bi-lingual readers especially for Lao children and use to them to teach these children. I illustrated the first 5 books myself before hiring a professional Lao illustrator and layout specialist.

That is the smae question I wanted to ask to - Would it be better to send money and you all can purchase them over there? I think it would be more feasible.

I think it's better to send money and buy them over there. Don't have to pay shipping fee. It only cost $10 for money gram to send money and they can pick it up in Laos in 10 minute at any bank. You can also ask Old Man. I'll find out about shipping fee tomorrow and let you know.

It cost about $30-$60 for shipping. Depend on the size of the box and weight. I think it's better and cheaper just to send money gram. They can buy school supply in Laos. It only cost $10 and no hassle.

Seems too easy.

When we have the number and give it to the bank, what does the bank then do?

After all, you said "go into any bank" so the moneygram is not sent to a SPECIFIC bank. Where is it sent to?

Banks here are often not that up to date with new technology and I worry that they won't know what to do with that number.

If you give the number to the bank and tell them your name. At any bank they'll know. They has the record in their computer. I send money to relative in Vientiane all the time. Very easy. Old Man just try to go to any bank by your house.

I just talk to Old Man. I think he prefer a box of school supply. Its easy for him and he don't have to spend time, and gas to get all the stuff in Laos. Easy for us to get supply in the US and ship them. I live by Target, post office and Wal-mart store.
