WB, Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation release fund for poverty reduction
(KPL) World Bank and Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation have given more than US$40 million of financial support to poverty reduction programme of the Lao PDR, so far.
The two organizations supported US$40 million, separating into two periods of payment. The first was US$19.3 million of soft loan belonging to the World Bank and second one was US$21.2 million of grant assistance under preparation for conducting project.
The grant aid was of the World Bank worth US$15 million and the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation worth US$6.2 million.
Throughout the implementation of the poverty reduction programme based on the using of financial support, more than 900,000 people in 2,000 villages, 28 districts in six provinces of Houaphanh, Luang Namtha, Xiengkhouang, Savannakhet, Saravane and Attapue have been reportedly received benefit.
The fund has been also spent on the construction of infrastructure in rural provinces ranging from improvement to constructions of roads in remote areas, which provided more facility to goods transport and businesses operation in these areas.
Besides, the fund has also been used for building schools, dispensaries, gravity-fed water, markets, water and forest conservation areas, vocational training for raising income to local people. This was a good factor for reducing basically poverty among people.
