We do, but not sure the exact minimum wage because there are some factors such as your age, the type of job you do, and where you work, ie city, remote area.

The minimum in Vientiane is probably 600,000 kip ($75 US) per month. I say that because I don't know anyone who earns less than that.

Well, if companies want to pay their employees $20 a month, nobody will stick around to work for them. So even if there's no law and regulation, common sense will prevail.

Lao expats don't necessarily have to own a business. You can can work for someone, as long as you're not cleaning the streets for $60 US a month like the poor lady we discussed about.

That reminds me, the Government pays the locals less than companies.

Keomany is the best thing that has ever happened to this "yank." Arrangement? Okay, I work, she works, I love "only" her and she me in kind. She keeps house, cooks wonderful food, works in the same factory I do (her job is much harder than mine as I drive a fork-truck), but she still works 60+ hours a week. My wife trust me, and that trust is not ill placed, I don't go to brothels and I don't cheat.

We met at work, both of us with 2 bad marriages behind us. We started as friends and the rest is history. I have nothing but the highest respect for my Lao wife. Something her last spouses had no idea how to give her. If you asked her if she considered herself to be lucky to met me, she would probably give you a resounding yes, but it is I, I believe, who is the lucky one to have found her.
