"Yam" small octopus and fried cricket are snacks or an entree, eaten primarily by men who like to drink alcohol.

It's not rare to see Lao men who enjoy alcohol.  Grin

I used to eat octopus, it's quite good, i like these we can find with street- sellers, which is dried. So good.

But i did not tried the insect.

Thanks for the pictures.

Insects are not everyone's cup of tea, but they are nutritious.

Badlikeme, It's a "cricket" as mentioned in my original post.

Grasshoppers are similar, and can be fried as well.

That's the Lao way. Whenever there is gaang (soup) served, everyone has is issued with a separate spoon, but everyone sips from the same bowl. No bs!

What about a Lao wedding? I have seen many videos where everyone takes a shot from the same glass, no one seems to object.

I try that one it does taste good like chicken. Will not try that again. Me and friends catch them in the rice field when I was a kids and make a snake soup. I like fried bugs better.

Yes my Old Man always told me snakes like to hide in the rice fields. He would go hunting with his machete and stack them up in a corner, then gather them at the end of the day and take them home for tea.

Fried bugs?

They do look like crickets(Mang ji lau) but I doubt it.  As a kid we call it "Mang ji Nai" looks like a cricket but it is not.  It's from the same family.  They still sell it here in the states, all canned product.
