Thanks for the clarification.  At first, I thought she meant "the single girls shopping mall".  So it's morning shopping mall/market. Smiley  It's okay, no one's perfect.

I am Lao-Thai. I don't have any Vietnamese background.

I just wrote how they say it in English at the shop.

No worries. Lao wording or letter isn't suppose to be in English anyways. Smiley

I am Lao, with no Thai blood. I said that I am Lao-Thai because my dad came back from there.

Thai and Siamese are distinct people. Both of my parents are Lao and born in Laos, but my dad went to Thailand when he was a kid and he met my mum when he returned to Laos.

Having grown up in Thailand, he still does the usual Thai things. Example, eat boiled rice which is why I often eat it too.

I still don't understand how that makes YOU 'Thai'. Huh

How? They are the same as far as Larb Dip is concerned.

Are you saying only the Siamese in Laos chow down Jasmine?

I consider my dad as Thai. He talks in Thai more than Lao, and he does all the Thai things. I can't really blame him because he grew up in Bangkok.

My family usually eats Jasmine rice. I haven't had sticky rice for a while. I rarely use my hands like other Lao people, I always use utensils when eating.

Stop it. STOP IT. STOP IT!

You're not going to tell me you use a knife to cut the sticky rice into portions, then hoist it into your mouth via a fork, are you? Grin Grin Grin

By the way, everybody in Laos eats Jasmine rice too. Not just the Hi-So. Wink

The "Lo-So" eat Jasmine rice, but they don't eat it every day like me. Most days they will have sticky rice, and only some days Jasmine rice.

I don't use my fingers to roll the sticky rice into a ball. Knife isn't needed for rice. The rice is placed on my plate, and I use a spoon or fork to eat my rice, regardless of what rice it is.

That's quite an emphatic statement there Saovaluck.

Now you really ARE making me laugh. Grin Grin Grin

In my minds eye, you look real comical using a spoon/fork to scoop the rice. Grin

Why no hands? Does this 'hygiene' trait run deep in the family too?
