I've lived in North America for over 30 years and you're telling me that I don't know my own country very well. I would't call wikipedia a trusted source of information. It's like they say, you can't believe everything you see on tv or the internet because anyone can put their opinion on there. What you see on tv and internet about the west is different from actually living here.
I think you need to do more research on the subject since you don't know what you are talking about still. Escort service only sets up a date, a meeting time and place, they cannot offer sex for sale. When the two people have sex for money, then it becomes illegal. Many massage parlours do this also, they advertise and claim to run a massage for clients, but behind the doors anything else can happen and that's when it becomes illegal and the police will shut it down. These businesses cannot say that they are selling sex (prostitution), they hide it by offering a "massage" or "companionship". How do I know about all this, it's because my friend was in this business. The police shut down his business.
"Escort services is usually described where companionship is hired for a night of entertainment or for more a night of intimate but
non-sexual services, such as massage. For the most part, these services are legal in the U.S. The state legislatures however recognize the reality that escort services are part of the adult entertainment business and pass various measures to control these services and to ensure that they are
distinct from prostitution which is illegal everywhere (except strangely some outlying districts of Nevada)."

since prostitution laws often forbid taking payment for sex or communicating for the purpose of arranging a contract for sexual services."
