I wish he'd drop the hating Party members comments, too.  I'm sure he's never met one, and inane comments like "I hate *****!" don't help anyone or change anything.  It's worth considering that when you say "Lao people are really nice!" that Party members and those in government are Lao people, too - and the majority of them are nice, too in the same way as other Lao people.

I know many people in the government and the great majority are good people.  If you met one of them, you'd certainly like them and you'd probably buy them a beer.

By the way Lao Democratic, we delivered your donated school materials to a rural primary school yesterday and they were very well received.  They asked me to relay thanks to you.  I'll be putting up photos in the next day or so.

Well, that was an excellent response from you, Larb Dip.  Hopefully you will keep to your resolution.

As far as politics is concerned, I am rather conflicted on the issue and think others should be also.  We have been raised in countries with a two party democratic system and tend to think that is the only kind of democratic system worth having, despite the fact that George Washington himself was opposed to having two parties constantly at each others' throats.

You, Lao Democratic and many others on this board have consistently expressed your desire that Laos modernize and develop quickly and becomes a prosperous nation where all its people can enjoy a good standard of living.  For that to happen, all that is needed is for things to continue to develop as they have been doing for the past 15 or so years, during which Laos has achieved 7% to 10% for much of the period and many of the Millennium Development Goals (MDG), including universal primary school enrollment look to be in sight.  Also, the government's aim of removal of Laos from the list of 'Least Developed Countries' is likely to be achieved within the next few years. 

All of this is on track under the current system.

However, if you want to stir up anti-government feelings, pursue the path of 'hating the commies' and try to get rid of them, you could support a movement to do so resulting in a civil war which could last years.  As a result, all foreign investment in Laos would stop, development would grind to a halt and all the progress that has been made so far would be lost, with the country being set back 20 years in terms of development and living standards.

I don't think it would be worth it, and I don't think it is what you want either.  The system here is not perfect, but it's a hell of a lot better than the systems in most of the countries of the world.

It continues to get better year by year, and we can each play our own small part in helping it to get better.

But without hateful rhetoric and violence.
