Bus station in Vientiane
30th May, 2009 at 9:13am

This bus station is located opposite the Morning Market in central Vientiane. The buses here take people to northern Laos and places within Vientiane. To travel to southern Laos, people need to catch the bus at another station.

Does the bus runs down to Pakse (taking Route 13?)? If so is Route 13 paved?

Yes. Yes. Yes.

Get the bus at the Southern Bus Station near the Dong Dok intersection on Road 13 south.

MrLao4ever, Yes, it takes around 10 hours from Vientiane to Pakse on a VIP bus. Maybe longer on a regular bus.

VIP buses are the comfortable buses with air conditioning and a toilet, and they only stop once for a 10 minute break in Savannakhet.

The regular buses stop frequently for toilet breaks and picking up/dropping off passengers along the road. However, the fare is cheaper.

Chuck, This bus station is situated in the Kua Din area of Vientiane.

The buses at the southern bus station go to Bolikhamxay. You have two options. You can catch a regular bus, or one of the pickup trucks similar to the pictures below. They are also located at the southern bus station.

I bet the scenery is very nice with mountains, hills and valleys along Route 13.  Are there good rock exposures next to the road?

So Kua Din is the name of the southern bus station?

Admin, do you have any idea how long it takes from Vientiane to Paksan?

Im coming this 30th of April which I know the general election will be going on that day is there going to be any problem?

Why should there be a problem? Unless if you stage a protest, or show any political dissent, you'll be fine. Laos is one of the safest locations in universe.

I said it before, but I will say it again:

Larb Dip:

I was thinking of recommending this website to my two teenage sons, but if they're going to encounter language like that and the other content you are so fond of posting, there's no way I can.

And since you, your content and your language are a perpetual presence here, I'm beginning to doubt whether I should continue with my own membership.

Chuck, No, "Kua Din" is the name of the central bus station opposite the Morning Market that is pictured above. There might be a bus to Paksan there too actually, because some buses go to Thakhek.

I'd go to the southern bus station to be sure, since they deal with all travels to the southern regions of Laos. Vientiane to Paksan takes about 2 hours or a bit more. The southern bus station is in Dong Dok that we call "Sai Tai".

Ask any jumbo or tuk tuk driver to take you to "Lot mea, sai tai" (Southern bus station), for around $4 US depending on your negotiation, or you can catch a bus there for a fixed price of 2,000 kip (25c US).

Larb Dip is right. Elections won't affect your travel plans, unless you plan to interrupt to their proceedings.
