Title: Motorbike street vendor in Vientiane, Laos Post by Admin Saovaluck on 29th Jun, 2017 at 4:50am
I came across my favorite drink, coconut juice, on the streets so I had to get one.
The average price of a coconut costs 10,000 kip ($1.25 USD) on the streets of Vientiane. Smaller size coconuts costs a bit less, and they lift the price for a coconut in restaurants and bars at 15,000 or 20,000 kip. Apart from selling coconut juice, this young man also sells coconut-flavored iCream. I assume the cart is welded to the motorcycle.
In America, the Ice Cream Trucks have speakers and play distinctive music; so the kids can hear the music, get excited, go get money from parent and eat delicious ice cream. Does the Coconut Man play music to attract customers? |
Title: Re: Motorbike street vendor in Vientiane, Laos Post by daft on 29th Jun, 2017 at 5:06am What I am reading is that for $500 USD, I can have Millions of Laotian Kip? Sounds to good to be true! |
Title: Re: Motorbike street vendor in Vientiane, Laos Post by Admin Saovaluck on 29th Jun, 2017 at 5:26am
The cart is either welded permanently, or removable by fastening with a bolt to the motorbike.
The coconut man doesn't play music to attract customers, but the ice-cream man plays music, it's the same in Laos. Millions of Laotian kip can be nothing depending on your spending habit. |

What you say is so true; my days as a Laotian Millionaire would be brief but glorious!
In our cold climate the Ice Cream Man is a summer-time only treat. In Vientiane is the Ice Cream Man a year-around treat? An everday Ice Cream Man is a childhood fantasy of we children of the cold. |

Lao Kip has more value than the Vietnamese Dong.
Yes, the ice-cream man in Vientiane is a year-round treat. The climate is generally warm to hot during the year, we rarely have cold days and it's never freezing because we don't have snow. |
Title: Re: Motorbike street vendor in Vientiane, Laos Post by daft on 29th Jun, 2017 at 8:36am In Laos, in Theory, I would be a Millionaire and have a year round Ice Cream Man...what a Paradise! But wait, do Laotian men wear pants and shirts in public? Does a white American with no shirt look vulgar? I like warm weather but not being vulgar. |

I love fresh coconut also. I would have to stop by this guy everyday and the guy selling the meatball. When I was in
Thailand the vendor would have like a grill or frying pot in the back of their motorcycle. I really admire how creative they are. |

While it's true that you're a millionaire in Laos, goods and services are charged in large figures in tens of thousands so your money will go pretty quickly.
Laotian men can wear in public the same things that men wear in western countries. Unless you're swimming in Vang Vieng, you'll probably be charged, arrested, or be told to put on a shirt if you were seen shirtless in Vientiane. Would you walk on the streets of New York with no shirt? Of course you wouldn't, so why do it in Vientiane? |

It's a common sense thing. I wouldn't want to be jail for some stupid stuff that I can control myself. Especially in a foreign country. Look at what happen to that kid in North Korea. If you want to get drunk and run around naked due it in the country side with the water buffalo.

Yeah you don't want to do anything that others are not doing, especially in a communist country like North Korea and Laos.
You should always follow what you see the locals wear, and what you see them do. Just don't try to act cool or different because tourists need to remember that Laos is still a communist country. |

I have often noticed Western men in public, in Asia, not wearing a shirt. I would not do this, as it seems out of place and makes the native people think you are idiot.
In America, alot of men only wear short pants, no shirt in public, so here is opposite if Laos. Also many American women have tattoos. Not a pretty sight. Do Laotian women have tattoos? I pray to God Almighty that Miss Administrator does not have tattoos. |

Not many Laotian women have tattoos, maybe less than 5% in the country.
I don't have any tattoos. |

In your photographs of street vendor, why are the curbs painted in a checked pattern?
What is the symbolism behind the colors; e.g. red and white checked curb means no parking? Tattoo is not for a classy lady, thank you for not having one. |

Yes, a red and white checked curb means no parking.
The street vendor beside the yellow and white curb can temporarily be there. |

Disagree whole-heartedly: Maybe for a bar girl tattoo is O.K.,
but for a classy lady tattoos are unacceptable. |

That's your opinion. Maybe you are just into looks ?
I guess you never heard they saying don't judge book by its cover. Maybe its their way of expressing themselves. But like I stated its your opinion. |

A woman should be feminine. America is full of manly women.
I prefer grace and manners; looks matter but secondarily. |

Yup, most women in the US are pretty bad. As for tattoos, I prefer women that don't have them but as long as they are not visible I don't care too much. |
