What are your favorite venues to drink or socialize in Vientiane?

My favorite venue is at home, for me anyway.

Like any country, there are clubs, bars, restaurants that offer drinks in Vientiane. There's also a food court in the Morning Market and cafes in some areas for those who like to drink coffee.

Most tourists in Vientiane like to hang out on the Mekong riverside, particularly in the evening to dine and watch the beautiful sunset.

I'm still young, but I don't like drinking like most Lao people.

When you go out, the truth is that you have to drink alcohol in order to fit in with the group. If you're going clubbing with friends and everybody is drinking beer and clinking glasses, and you're having fruit juice by your sad sorry self, it's not a fun environment to be in.

I've been in that situation and I stopped going clubbing and most social venues that involves alcohol, but I eat at restaurants on some occasions.

"Khop Chai Deu" and "Kualao"are a couple of nice restaurants in Vientiane that offers clean and delicious foods.

I agree with ya. I'm a social drinker. I have friends that's
all they do is drink on the weekend. I mean hard liquor
like hennesy and stuff. I personally don't like the hangover.

It's good for you to drink once in a while with friends and family.

I'm not even a social drinker, I'm a 100% non-drinker for life so I wouldn't drink for any occasion.

I have nothing against people who drink because it is part of socialising whether it be hard liquor or soft liqour, but I fall into the low category of khon Lao who does not drink at all.

You telling me that you wouldn't even drink a glass of wine ? They say its good for you .

I wouldn't even have a sip of wine, let alone drink a glass of it.

It's true that wine is good for you, but in saying that, there are other drinks that are good for you too. I drink fresh fruit juices every day, that's even better for you.

I once overheard a Lao elderly man say to his wife who didn't like him drinking, "even if you don't drink, you have to die as well."

And he is right. You can be as healthy as you like, but we will all be gone soon.

Alcoholic drinks are just something that I've never really liked, and not because I want to stay healthy. You can still be healthy by being a social drinker like yourself.

Sometime you drink just to unwind . Are you really up tight admin ?

Yes, I agree with something that I don't like to consume myself. There's nothing wrong with drinking from time to time because that's what they made many kinds of alcohol for.

In Laos, however, people tend to go over the top with their drinking.

I'm the sort of person who knows how to resist peer pressure.

I tend to agree with Lao people tend to go overboard. The Lao people here in the state tend to do the same. Every weekend is drink til they can't anymore. The pressuring peers is right on.

Half a glass of red wine every evening is just perfect anywhere.
