Judy Garland as Dorothy was sexually harassed by the Munchkins on the set of The Wizard of Oz, according to her ex-husband Sid Luft.

An unfinished book written by Mr. Luft, discovered in his archives in 2016, has now been published. Luft died in 2005.

Detailing his former wife's torment, he wrote: "They thought they could get away with anything because they were so small. They would make Judy's life miserable on set by putting their hands under her dress. The men were forty or more years old," he wrote.

Bert Lahr, who played the Cowardly Lion, said: "Many Munchkins made their living by panhandling."

For their role in The Wizard of Oz, the Munchkins earned between $50 to $100 USD a week, spending their money on an "unholy assembly of pimps, hookers and gamblers" as they stayed at Los Angeles's Culver Hotel where they stayed during filming.

You have to keep an eye on those panhandling Munchkins you never know what they will get up to (no pun intended  ;D) They knew how to spend their money wisely though😁

It's just the camera angle or the way she is sitting, but she had nice legs.

I guess there's not much the Munchkins can do with that kind of money but use it for entertainment. There are rumours that the Munchkins "had sex orgies in the hotel" with producer Mervyn LeRoy having "to have police on just about every floor."

Miss Garland once described the Munchkin actors' behaviour, saying: "They were little drunks. They got smashed every night, and they picked them up in butterfly nets."

the Munchkins would sure love to come to certain areas of Laos at night..

I'm pretty sure prostitution didn't exist in Laos in the 1930's, so Laos wouldn't have been the "go to" country for the Munchkins.

It all began in the 1960's in small numbers, but flourished in recent years due to the many hotels, clubs and bars in Laos.

it has always existed I think. It's even recorded in the history books that it existed in Ancient Thailand. I think there must have been at least some in Laos back then..It's an ancient trade. they even had it in ancient rome..

There were some Lao prostitutes in the very old days in the 1930's, but they worked secretly and mainly served high ranking people like army generals.

The average Joe wouldn't be able to walk into a bar and meet up with a prostitute as easily like today because during the Lao Monarchy era when we had a King and Queen who controlled the country, Lao girls always stayed home with their families.

The Munchkins would have been arrested if they came to Laos with the intent of sleeping with prostitutes. The law in Laos in the 1930's is very strict and different to the Laos you see today, where there are laws but they are not enforced.

I think a sex worker from the 1930s would be more or less someone kept in the shadows as a sexually subservient concubine to a person of power as opposed to the girls of today.

People have done some awful things to her, being young and pretty.

The studio boss, Louis B. Mayer, did it to her too. He liked to fondle her left breast and this came directly from her, so it's not a story that others have made up.

I'm not sure because I'm not female but I hear that's something that happens to a lot of pretty girls all the time. They claim to get a lot of unwanted attention from men everywhere they go..Men are just thinking about sex all the time.

Groping is a serious crime in Laos and there will be some jail time, but you won't receive the death penalty because you're just touching, and not sexually penetrating someone without their consent.

They obviously didn't take any photos of Judy Garland as Dorothy getting dressed, but there's a miniseries with an actress by the name of Tammy Blanchard who played Dorothy to demonstrate how they did it.

so why did they strap them down? they wanted her to look younger? Anyway that's pretty crazy that the Munchkins invited her to a sex party. Would she have gone if her mother didn't forbid her?

Yes, apparently, and she didn't feel comfortable because it was tight and it was also very hot during filming.

She didn't really like the Munchkins, the male ones anyway, so I don't think she would have gone if she had her own way.

I know a lot of things about Judy Garland because I'm her biggest fan.

She lost her virginity to a different guy about her age, and not the two older gentlemen who gave her 3 kids.

She only had short romances and didn't have a steady boyfriend during her teenage years because her employer MGM controlled who she could see.

Her first real love was to a guy name Tyrone Power, an actor who was 8 years older than her, but she wasn't allowed to see him because MGM was thinking about making money and they wanted the Hollywood screen couple image of Mickey Rooney and Judy Garland to stay in people's head.

this is kinda funny to me but, i don't think the munchkins would grope Judy, i do believe the drunk part though, but in a interview it was said that Judy gave the munchkins a huge box of candy just for them, she even said "sweets for the sweets"

I believe Luft's story. It's not the sort of thing anyone would come out and joke about unless it was true. It wasn't all the Munchkins that did it, but there would have been a few.

Judy Garland was only a teenager so no one would listen to her or take her seriously. In the 1930's you can get away with anything.

I truly believe that if the Munchkins had asked here politely, Dorothy would have surrendered to the task in question.

Miss Judy Garland was the Star of Wizard of Oz, when being a Hollywood Star meant something. Any one who molested Miss Judy would have been fired. Also I don't think Miss Judy would have allowed such behaviour.

Similar to Judy Garland, Sarah Monahan was an Australian child film star who was molested at work but no action was taken until now, over two decades down the track.

So child sexual abuse doesn't usually come out in the open straight away, but many years down the track because the child star fear losing their job at the time.
