Automated teller machines or ATMs are pretty much everywhere within the city of Vientiane these days. Some areas of Vientiane even have a couple of ATM's from different banks beside each other.

Even though there's the convenience of an ATM, please be warned that cash advances in Laos have high fees and charges for foreign credit card transactions, so it's advisable to bring cash readily available to use when visiting Laos.

Most businesses in Laos such as general shopping don't accept credit cards unless you go to expensive hotels and restaurants.

If I had a lot of money I would buy a lot of these machine and put em in tourtist areas .

you need put a lot of money inside or you put a flexible sanner inside to get the information from bank cards.  I think you are thinking the second. ;D

I hope those ATMs are secured and bolted own tight. We have thug issues in my city where dark skin sagging pants wearing tattooed gansta rap listening thugs would steal big trucks and use them to knock down and steal ATMs.

They do have them even in small tourist areas, like Tad Lo, Salawan..There's one by the morning market. At night that area is teeming with brothels in every directions, probably at least 10-15 in Tad Lo alone..The white people come for the waterfall, the Lao tourists come for something else.

The Lao tourists usually come for the girls, as there is a large (but seemingly hidden during the daytime) red light district in Tad Lo. A lot of those girls are Lao Teng and they come from the mountainous tribal areas (Ta-Oy, Dak Jeung) to make money.

You'll have to go for yourself and see if you really want to know more, but all of the clientele I've seen there is Asian men. I've seen a couple locations with girls from Vietnam, a lot of tribal Lao mountain girls, and a lot of Lao Lum girls. These are mostly Karaoke bars but some are just plain brothels. I counted at least 10-15 in the village, which is a lot because it's a very small village. The tourists come to see the waterfall at the end of the road and there are a bunch of foreign guesthouses there. The brothels are concentrated around the intersection with the market and the ATM.

Girls providing services are very common in developing nations. Immoral as it is it is the way it is around the world since the past and today and for the future. Prostitution has been going since the beginning of human time. I see these in many locations in Mexico, Venezuela, Brazil and other Latin American nations.

I think it is not right to put an ATM in front of the temple. I saw that in one of the images.

I've seen lots of ATMs by temples in Chiang Mai, Thailand.

But why next to a temple? Near shopping mall would've been more feasible....

The ATM is beside the main road so people can see it.

It's not at the front of the temple because there is a wall and no gate into the temple grounds where the ATM is situated.

The temple doesn't own the land outside the walls, only within the walls, so they have no say what the land can be used for.

When they replenish the machine does the ATM company armed guards with bullet proof truck to get money to the ATM locations?

Yep.  One of the biggest things I hate about US culture.

The topic is ATMs and not prostitution..come on folks...get it together ;D ;D ;D

I belive the machine itself is no big issue to install.The
problem is banking and reliable fiber optic and network to
maintain the system.

I wondered about the lack of maintenance factor because most southeast Asian people do not really care about keeping up of anything. They just use it and abuse it until bygones be bygones.

Serious question Mak Nad, where and when in Tad Lo should I look for this?

Any time of the year..just go to Tad Lo at night. They're on the main road leading into the town and clustered around the right turn to turn into the village. right by the day market where they sell food and theres a lone ATM

Being raise in America make me realize how lucky I am.
I had some friends who travel to China to visit the great walls.They said that place stink of urine and human waste.
Apparently they have no public restroom around the wall so people just go wherever feel like it. I think Laos has a long
way to go

I must say your friends must have been over the walls 20 years ago. Or have excellent sniff or wondered to derelict parts.  I went there 15 years ago and no restroom for sure, but if you put that thing out, that thing would be watched by thousands eyes or if now, live casted around China.  ;D ;D ;D.

My first time in Laos in 1996, It took me 20 minutes to find a restroom when visiting the tall gate, sort like Arc of Triumph.

In city, even in Laos, no problem finding it in 10 or 5 minutes.  When I visited northern laos projects,  no need to have a restroom.  ;D ;D ;D
