Title: Pavement parking is causing a problem in Vientiane Post by Admin Saovaluck on 15th Jan, 2017 at 7:19am
As the population get richer and people drive more cars, they obviously need to park somewhere and the lack of parking spaces in Vientiane are making drivers park on the pavement.
This causes a two way street to become narrow and turn into one road, and drivers must effectively drive in the middle of the road over the white markings and give way or slow down to oncoming cars in what is meant to be a two way street. Pedestrians can't even walk on the side of the road either, and have to step onto the road. The black car on the left needs a hand wash.

Yes, maybe they drove from a dusty area.

Good theory. Perhaps those pictures were taken from dry season. Lack of rain during dry season would have hindered soil stability and enhanced wind blown erosion on the non-vegetative landscape in and around metropolis Vientiane. Evidence of somewhat thick layer of dirt on the black car is an indication that the owner of the black car resided on the barren landscape.

It won't be like China. Laos is just way too small..in surface area and population. Anyway there are still more cars in one large province of Thailand than all of Laos probably.

Catastrophic air pollution problem in cities in China is mainly caused by the direct results of too many of the population burning coal for cooking and heating. Major cities in China are built on lowland basins with highland plateaus surrounding lowland basins. Therefore there is limited air flow to push the coal induced smog away from these cities because the highland plateaus restrict the air flow over these cities.

Sounds kind of like Chiang Mai, Thailand. It's in a valley surrounded by mountains, which are inhabited by ethnic minorities who practice slash and burn farming. The smoke gets trapped in the valley and Chiang Mai gets filled with smog after the farming season. I thought the pollution in China was from rapid industrialization and factories, though.

The problem with developing countries like China and Thailand is their ignorance of environmental concerns and lack of environmental regulations. I am sure most motorbikes, cars and trucks over in China and Thailand use mainly diesel and without set emission regulations. People slash and burning, bad emissions from vehiclse, coal burning, factory emissions not following emission standards (or lack thereof) will create a smog filled sky. This is just a phase during the development process of any society where land, river and sky make sacrifices. |

Thailand is actually rather progressive and banned most motorcycles that use carburetor fuel systems. If you look at the new Honda Waves and even the automatic scooters they all use fuel-injection now.

China men are ignorant to environmental issues from rapid development. They even built cities with high rises and what not and do not have any China men living in. Their development looks good on paper that they are developed but does not look good if no one is living in them.

China can become cleaner if the Chinamen government allows full private ownership of businesses. Privatization allows competition, competition creates many ideas and options to solve every day problems and ideas and options enhance quality and services to the country.

To be honest with ya I welcome anybody that will help develope Laos. I want to see Lao people on the world
stage, I want all the childrens have good education and have access to health care. Cause the Lao government right now ain't doing jack to help their own people. They drive expensive car and drink fine wine ,while the people are freaking dirt poor. |
Title: Re: Pavement parking is causing a problem in Vientiane Post by Satan on 23rd Jan, 2017 at 10:21am
I hope it's red wine that they are drinking. I drink half a glass of red wine every evening. Actually red wine can lower your cholesterol, protect your heart, control blood sugar, boost your brain and fight off a cold, stop cancer, make you skinny and other benefits.

I disagree. Bud Light is horrible and it's like drinking water. After finishing a six pack, I didn't feel high at all. I prefer dark beer because the getting high effect is much quicker dark beer.
