Title: Judy Garland's ruby slippers project in February, 2016 Post by Admin Saovaluck on 27th Jan, 2016 at 3:02pm
Welcome to this forum thread as we embark on another fascinating project with Judy Garland's ruby slippers.
Our next pair of ruby slippers will begin in February and they will be different to what we normally make. This project will involve a limited edition ruby slippers using dark red (burgundy) metallic sequins, and this maybe the only time you'll see us craft a dark version of the ruby slippers. We have some dark red sequins enough to make only one pair of ruby slippers and decided to use them. We don't plan to pursue with dark red ruby slippers after this project because we love red the most of all, and red shoes is a girls color, whereas dark red shoes is more suited for elderly women. Randy Struthers will be making the bows for us. The reason being is because we don't have the materials required to make a dark set of bows. We always make bows for our ruby slippers, but on this occasion we will be using his bows for the first time and it's very nice of him to help. Randy is well-known in the ruby slipper community because he likes to put his name out there and credit his work, while very few people have heard about us since we enjoy staying low-key. Again this will be the only time you will see us make dark red ruby slippers, and you've got some of the very best ruby slipper makers in the world involved in this unique project, so there is an opportunity for one lucky buyer to own this special limited edition pair of ruby slippers. For information on how you can purchase this limited edition pair of ruby slippers, please email us, or you can send us a private message on Facebook. |

These are the burgundy colored metallic sequins that we will sew by hand onto the shoes. They are new sequins and the ruby slippers will be created to look brand new, the same condition Judy Garland wore them in her role as Dorothy. We need roughly 5,000 sequins to make sure there's enough to cover a pair of shoes.
The sequins are all the same color in the picture. Some maybe look brighter or darker than others caused by the light reflecting off them, but they're all the same. This is the reason why MGM used metallic sequins, so the ruby slippers give the shine and sparkle effect on film. They measure 5mm in diameter, the same size as the sequins on the original ruby slippers. Burgundy metallic sequins |

This is a pair of shoes that will eventually turn into a pair of dark red ruby slippers. They are custom-made to an American size 5B which is Judy Garland's shoes size, and the 1930's style shape is perfect. The long heels and pointy toes gives that sexy look about them, and matches the best pair Judy Garland as Dorothy wore in the movie.
The bottom of the shoes has been painted glossy burgundy. The right shoe has been stamped in gold reading "Innes Shoe Co., Los Angeles, Pasadena, Hollywood", and both shoe has the writing "#7 Judy Garland". The shoes is set and ready for the long sequining work. We have began sequining the right shoe and it's looking absolutely beautiful. A test bow is placed on the shoe, and it's not the actual bow that will be used.
The thread used is very strong and holds the sequins firmly to the shoe. We've gone with a beige colored thread which is how they appear on the original ruby slippers today after the red or orangey red color faded over time. I'm only 26 years old when I write this, and I hope I can look back to this forum thread in the years ahead and remember the moment in history when I helped make this limited edition pair of ruby slippers. We have done a lot of work with the right shoe and we couldn't be happier with the progress, the stitching is beautiful.
Again we've used a test bow. The pair of bows that Randy Struthers made for this pair of ruby slippers will arrive soon. We have completed sequining the right shoe of Judy Garland's ruby slippers, and we're taking a break for a day before our job begins on the left shoe. Occupational health and safety ladies and gentlemen, you always need to rest the eyes and hands because sewing thousands of sequins is a marathon, not a sprint.
The bow on the shoe is a test bow that won't be used. The bows made for this pair of ruby slippers are on their way from the USA and we'll take a photo when they arrive. We always make ruby slippers for Judy Garland and think she would be pretty impressed with the quality of our work so far. This limited edition pair of ruby slippers in Judy Garland's size 5B is still available to reserve by emailing us or sending us a message on Facebook. We won't be making burgundy colored ruby slippers anymore so this is the only opportunity for one lucky person to own a pair. Indescribable beauty, this is the kind of ruby slippers any Oz and Judy Garland fan would die for.
The perfect sequining continues on the left shoe as our project with this limited edition pair past the halfway point. The sequins overlap each other in an orderly fashion and there's no loose sequin whatsoever. Every sequin is attached to the shoes very firm and tight with a strong thread so this high quality pair of ruby slippers should last a very long time. Once again, these bows will not be used on this pair of ruby slippers. Our job with this stunning pair of ruby slippers has reached the home stretch. We've still got a fair amount of sewing to do at the back of the left shoe.
The sequining has a clean and neat appearance in every row, and the shoes is covered with sequins to the edge leaving no visible red fabric, really strong attention to detail in our work. We're still using a test bow on the unfinished ruby slippers. If you're looking to buy an exact replica, a really high quality pair of ruby slippers made by one of the world's best in the craft, then this limited edition pair is definitely worth considering. The pair of bows for Judy Garland's limited edition ruby slippers has arrived.
We expected to receive a beautiful pair of bows from America's Randy Struthers, and he has delivered the excellent work that we know he is capable of doing. They are stunning and they are burgundy which will go perfect with our burgundy ruby slippers. From our experience, it's never easy to make hand-sewn bows, it takes a lot of your time because they contain many small pieces that you need to sew, so we appreciate his precious time and help. We've finished sequining and the bows have been attached very tight to the shoes. We are just tidying some things up to keep the ruby slippers looking clean and shiny.

This $2,000 USD pair of ruby slippers is finished, and they have been sold to a dedicated fan.
It's been a joy working with a dark pair of ruby slippers and that's pretty much the end of it because we will be focusing on red ruby slippers from here on in. The burgundy ruby slippers turned out beautiful than we thought they would. Our ruby slippers are always crafted in dedication to Judy Garland, so there's something magical about them. We hope this stunning pair of ruby slippers will bring happiness, good health and lots of money flowing in to the proud owner.
