We are back again after our long break to begin work on a new pair of hand-sewn ruby slippers. You always need to relax the eyes and hands because sewing nonstop takes a toll on your health.

Below are two animated pictures of a cute Judy Garland and Norma Shearer sitting together at the Los Angeles Academy Awards in 1940. Judy Garland was only 17 years old at the time, and it was in this very place where she won a special Academy Juvenile Award for her role as Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz. They don't give this type of award anymore so to own one is something unique and special.

Norma Shearer also worked for MGM Studios so she knew Judy Garland very well. Miss Shearer took no part in The Wizard of Oz but she visited the set on some occasions. She looks a bit like Billie Burke who played Glinda. For those who have never heard of Norma Shearer, she is a Canadian-born actress who made a name for herself in Hollywood in the 1930's and early 40's.

We made a pair of hand-sewn bows with an overlay of red silk fabric and thin leather which was cut into a shape of a bow.

The whole point of sewing the stones and beads onto the fabric instead of gluing them is to keep them tight and prevent them from falling off. This is the same technique as the original bows. Our bows were created to look like new and they will age naturally as the years go by.

This pair of bows is the perfect shape and size and looks beautiful, containing the exact high quality glass rectangular stones used on the originals, and the correct rhinestone count of 46 on each bow. The vintage bugle beads have been tediously sewn individually to fill the inner gaps of the bows.

We are still working on some minor details with our shoes including painting the soles. They should be ready for a photo next week before we begin the sequining process.

Our work with the base shoes is on hold because there are more important obligations at the moment.

This project will continue in mid November, so please stay tuned.

How long does it usually take to make these?

It can take forever if the project is on and off, or it can take a few weeks if we work on the project all day. Making high quality ruby slippers is the hardest and tedious hand-sewing you can do. There's nothing compared to it.

This is just a hobby and not treated as a full time job, so the time it takes for us to make a pair of ruby slippers can vary. I have other work commitments and my assistant mother have work commitments of her own.

I'm a momentum person and when I start something, I usually like to get things done within a reasonable time frame.

We are now ready to continue with this project. Thank you for your patience over the last four weeks while we temporarily stopped working to take care of other commitments.

Below is a beautiful pair of shoes that we will use. It is custom-made in Judy Garland's size 5B, and the shape is identical to the originals with the 1930's style arch shank and pointy toes. The ruby slippers that Judy Garland as Dorothy wore in the Munchkinland scenes has longer heels than other pairs made for the movie, and our long heels match those heels perfectly.

We painted the soles glossy red, and red fabric has been sewn onto the shoes. To make the ruby slippers look authentic, "#7 Judy Garland" is written on the top of both shoe with a black fountain pen, and the right shoe features the Innes Shoe Company gold stamp.

We have started sewing individual sequins one by one on the right shoe. The placement of the sequins looks really neat all the way down to the toe of the shoe.

There's a touch of class about our work, and they don't come any better than hand-sewn ruby slippers.

A lot of work has been done on one side of the shoe. This will be an exact replica of "the Witch's Shoes" from the Munchkinland scenes in The Wizard of Oz, which is very hard to make.

Every sequin has been carefully sewn to perfection so far and the ruby slippers is looking more and more beautiful, it just takes your breath away.

We're nearly done with both sides of the right shoe.

The stitching is very impressive, there's no question about it. The sequins overlap each other beautifully and there's no gaps.

We've now completed sequining on the right shoe and it looks very beautiful.

The sequins have been sewn directly onto the shoe using nothing but a straight needle, and it's challenging on different angles on the shoe.

Judy Garland's ruby slippers is looking perfect as we pass the halfway mark of this project.

Sewing is one thing, but to sew the sequins neat and straight is another, and our work demonstrates strong attention to detail. Just beautiful all round, the bows and the symmetrical placement of the sequins. The new owner is very lucky to lock in this pair.

We are a week away from finishing a gem of a job with Judy Garland's ruby slippers.

Over the years some people have told us that our ruby slippers looks better than the originals. We disagree but it shows that people admire and think highly of our creations.

After one and a half months with this project, and some weeks off due to other commitments, Judy Garland's ruby slippers is finally finished and they look absolutely gorgeous.

You won't find ruby slippers like these anywhere else but right here because they are uniquely handcrafted to look like new, using the same hand sewing technique as the original ruby slippers.

We always make ruby slippers for Judy Garland, so they hold a special place in our hearts. Before they go out the door, we always make a wish for Judy Garland to travel with her ruby slippers and help them on a safe journey to their new home. We hope the ruby slippers bring lots of magic to the new owner.
