Title: Making a set of bows for Judy Garland's ruby slippers Post by Admin Saovaluck on 12th Feb, 2014 at 5:35pm
I am preparing to make another set of bows for our next pair of ruby slippers.
The photo below are two pieces of leather that I've cut up into a shape of a bow and then dyed red. There will be some trimming on the leather afterwards because the corners of the bows on the original ruby slippers are slightly rounded. Other materials I will need are rhinestones, rectangular stones, bugle beads and a red silk fabric. I have vintage and rare materials that are used by serious bow makers. I take great pride in making bows for ruby slippers. [html] <table align=center><tr><td> </td></tr> <tr><td> </td></tr></table>

When making ruby slipper bows, I go to great lengths to make them just as beautiful as the young lady who wore them.
In order to make my bows look authentic, an important step is to get the size of the leather right. If I cut the leather too big then they will look too big on the shoes. There will also be too many gaps once the silk overlay containing the jewels are over the leather. If I cut the leather too small then the silk overlay and jewels won't fit, so I'm dealing with millimeters to get the perfect bow. Beautiful pair of leather bows |

One bow is finished, below is just a close-up photo but it's smaller in real life. It took a few days to make one bow because sewing is time-consuming. This bow would look beautiful on any ruby slippers. The red silk overlay makes the bow look high quality, and not like a plastic or cardboard looking bow.
The jewels I used are identical to the ones on the original ruby slippers. I especially like the rhinestones in silver settings which represents diamond bordering rubies in The Wizard of Oz. They are the perfect shape, size, color, face cut and claw settings and not many people in the world have access to these rhinestones. Alrighty, now back to work on the second bow. It took me 4 or 5 days to make this ruby slipper bow with another one still be constructed. High quality authentic reproduction bows like this one is not an overnight job. All the jewels have small holes in them that only a thin needle can go through, so they can take a toll on your eyes.
Every single jewels was carefully hand-sewn onto a beautiful silk fabric overlay with leather backing like the originals as worn by Judy Garland as Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz. Bow made by JudyGarlandsRubySlippers.com |

Some of our stunning collection of hand-sewn bows that have not been used on the ruby slippers.
Each set of replica bows have a uniqueness about them, like all the bows on the original ruby slippers worn by Judy Garland as Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz have a uniqueness about them too. Collection of ruby slipper bows inspired by The Wizard of Oz Please click on image to view a larger version |
