The last two photos of the first series which I will call “road kill” are nice; the rural landscape of rice fields are inspirational of dreams past and the present.

The flag looks old too. I'm sure they'll get a better flag and hang it properly once the house is finished. |

It depends on the area. The further away from the city will obviously be cheaper. |

They are around 30-38 yrs old, they have family and friends there. Doing business and construction company. No point of staying in the states for some people, working for $11 a hour, but doing business and making good money in Laos. Cost of living is cheaper. :)

So much are they expected to make over there? Income in Vientaine at $11/hour rate then you are in the upper class?

Can make a lot if you do business in Laos. All depends. But people I know are doing very well in construction company, water bottle. Building house, road. They have money to buy new car and house cash. Not monthly payment like us in the US.

Good to hear that they are doing well.
It still baffles me today why Lao people in general like to have gold products as a part of a higher status symbol. Anyway nothing wrong with that. |

Doing business in Laos especially in construction and road are major and big project, but here is what normally happens:....
1st contractor some upper level official 2nd contractor some relatives from the upper level official 3rd contractor some friends (upper class) from the relatives 4th contractor some friends from the upper class friends 5th contractor this some friends do it themselves for pass it to 6th contractor 6th contractor (final stage) some cheap and fast labour from neighborhood So try to squeeze in between 3rd or 4th and this is big business. Cheers :( |
