Judy Garland and Mickey Rooney starred in nine movies together. Judy Garland is best known as Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz, and Mickey Rooney was a star of the Andy Hardy series of films.
Mickey Rooney did not appear in The Wizard of Oz, but he was occasionally on the set during shooting breaks to give encouragement and inspiration to Judy.
Judy Garland only made three appearances in the Andy Hardy series, however most people assume that she was in all of the films in the series due to her chemistry with Mickey Rooney, and the popularity of the six other films they made together.
During Hollywood's golden age, Judy Garland and Mickey Rooney were both very popular with the mass movie going audiences and extremely lucrative for MGM Studios. Judy Garland was 13 years old when she signed a contract with MGM in 1935, and Mickey Rooney signed with MGM in 1934 at the age of 14. The entertainment duo would become best friends for life.
