Eating blood or blood dishes is extremely common with Lao people both in Laos and abroad.

Noodle soups, especially "kaow poon", frequently contain cubes of blood jelly (blood tofu), and duck blood salad is a dish that usually contain fresh duck blood from a freshly slaughtered duck getting a slit on the neck with a knife, poor thing.

Please be aware that not all Lao people approve this sort of cruel and inhumane death to ducks.

Cooked foods kills the bacteria.

If you're a tourist, the travel advisors don't recommend eating raw foods in Laos. Raw food is safer in your country.

Maybe it brings out more flavour. The Japanese are known for eating raw fish and seafood.

You eat raw duck?

You can put raw beef and fish in Lao style meat salads, but I've never seen anyone eat raw duck salad before. Maybe because I don't mingle with the "Lo-So".

From my understanding, duck meat is always cooked, and the blood is the only thing raw. If the blood from the duck is not enough, some people mix it with raw pig blood which is okay.

Are you guys vampires? I don't even like kow poon with cooked blood in it. I guess it's better than the vietnamese drinking snake blood with liquor.

Did someone say Loso? *lights a lighter*

I don't mind a small amount of cooked blood tofu in "kaow poon" and "kaow piek".

Well not entirely true on what I have stated earlier.  My folks prepare the raw duck salad and I normally pour them into an extremely hot frying pan and then continuously stir the salad for 2-3 minutes.  So the duck meat is medium-rare but the blood in the salad is medium cooked.

But I do enjoy 'raw' beef salad with stomach linings, spleen juice and/or whatever inside the cow.  Nothing goes to waste!

To be safer, experts suggest to eat raw oysters only in months that end in 'er' - September,October, November and December.

No but they taste good fries or grill on fire. Smell good too. We used to catch them in the rice fields with net.

Grasshopper, crickets and other insects are very high in protien.  I need at least 1.25grams of protien times my weight to increase muscle mass.  These insects are a perfect solution ;D.
