Old pictures of Vat Pha Keo (Wat Phra Keo)

Funny looking at those pictures. The area around it now looks so different. Thanks for sharing.

Everything is always different as the years pass by. Land areas change, people change, the fashion change. Everything is different in life.

In the old days, the Anousavali area looks desserted. Now there's always locals and tourists around, and many vehicles pass by each day.

I love the old picture of Laos. Thank for sharing.

Every time I see Patuxay, I get the urge to break out several tins of paint and spruce up the monument.

I visited it in 1997 or 1996 and  Beerlao Company and a reservoir. I stayed at a half-finished hotel some 500 meters from Mekong River.  All changed. Good luck.
I will be back.

That's pretty.

The three headed elephant symbol is on the ceiling :o but still part a Lao history.

Lao Lan Xang and 3 head elephant is Lao history and heritage. King Fa Ngam descendent Lao Royal family was in power for 600 year until 1975. 

Aha... what are the existing Lao Royal Family members now? Do they have any saying? What do they do?

There is Lao Royal family living in France, Canada, US and Australia. Of course they want democracy and freedom in Laos but I don't speak for them.

I highly agree that all human beings around the world should have freedom and democracy.   Would you think they have their own 'personal' interests to certain degree ::)?

Yes they want democracy amd what is best for Laos. They also want Laos to install Constitutional monarchy like Japan, Cambodia or UK. Where they have no power but there as a national symbol.

If someone come take over your house and kick you out. Wouldn't you want and have the right to take it back :)

Very true -n the best interest of majority of Laos.  I never like the Socialism ideology but I really think that they really need to be more aggressive on taxing money making individuals over there.  Tax money can be use on building better roads and drainage systems, vocational schools and other programs to help motivated Lao folks get higher paying jobs. 

What's the minimum wage over there?

They say 60% of Laos national budget is from foreigner aid. Without that they can't pay bills or government worker, city maintenance and so on. Corruption is a problem. Money and power change people :)

60% of the national budget is from 'foreign aid' suggested that there is too much dependency from others.   'Foreign aid' is free money to the country with no strings attached?

The country needs to be more independent. With natural resources and high potential for many manufacturing business start-up opportunities, I do not see any problem in the near future of becoming less dependent from foreigners.

Laos has the smallest economies in Southeast Asia and least developed country. It need all the aid and fund it could get. It will take time to modernizing. When Laos is less corrupt thing will get better. Go Laos :)

You have to understand Laos politics. Laos is still under Vietnam control since 1975. Laos Economies policy and military affair have to go through Vietnam first. :(
