Title: Married Overseas. Post by chuck on 2nd Nov, 2011 at 12:27am
Hi,
As some of the members here know that I married a Lao wife some time May this year. After getting married I applied for her visa to stay in my country. Now our concern is, when any of the immigration officer in the Lao custom checkpoint sees the visa my wife have which is a spouse visa that means she got married overseas do you think that will give us any trouble? We didnt get married in Lao, as in not having the marriage cert of Lao. Like not letting her leave Lao for example when we are trying to catch a plane from Vientiane back to Malaysia? Or she may not get to renew her passport when it expires because of the spouse visa on her passport? I supposed it is not against the Law of Lao by getting married Overseas. I know it is against the law of Lao if we didn't get married in Lao and get the marriage cert of Lao. We are going to Lao next year in the month of april for song kran. |

Congratulations on your marriage.
Well, I don't think it should be a problem. People have the right to marry anywhere they want to. |

Congrats! Regarding the visa, you shouldn't have a problem at all.

As in when the immigration officer at the Immigration check point sees that my wife has a visa for being my wife in Malaysia it should be alright? My wife is kinda worried and I really can't do anything about it right. |

Get in touch with the Lao Embassy for peace of mind.
If your wife is still worried then it's best not to enter Laos at all, this is all there really is to it. |

Hey guys, Yeah, I called up the Lao embassy in my country and I was told to bring my marriage cert to the embassy get it translated into Lao and stamped. Just show the translated document to police if needed and there shall be no problem according to the guy in the embassy. :) Thank you guys for the advice. |
