Title: Sabaidee! Post by Sean Lao on 31st Oct, 2011 at 5:02am
Sabaidee, nice to meet everyone here on this forum. My name is Sean, I'm half Lao/Filipino born in the United States. I can speak about 70% Lao, but I'm quickly trying to learn through studying Thai first. Yes, I know it's a different language, but in Los Angeles, there are no Lao temples or classes available. Soon after, I hope to learn to read and write Lao.
I just came back from Lao,Thailand, and Vietnam after 4 months, and have never been so fascinated about our culture than ever before. I toured the whole country in 3 weeks, from Vientiane, Luang Prabang, Xiengkhuong, Pakse, and everything in between. Hope to meet everyone here. If you have any questions, let me know. thanks Khop Jai lai lai |

Hi Sean, there's a few different Lao temples around Southern CA. Where do you live?

Oh really? I googled and came up with no results. I live in the Santa Monica area, right next to LA.

There are several more that I can't think of right now. Here's the ones that come to mind:
Wat Lao Buddha Samakee 2201 South Birch Street Santa Ana, CA 92707 Tel. 714-662-0285 Wat Phosayaram of Orange County 7721 Orangewood Avenue. Stanton, California 90680-3509 Tel. 714-890-7017 Wat Lao Buddhist Samakitham 6021 Rutland Riverside, CA 92503 Tel. 951-509-0931 Also, there are several Lao restaurants and markets around LA and Orange Counties if you didn't already know. My favorite restaurant is: Vientiane which is located in Garden Grove. |

Thanks! They all seem to be quite a drive, but I hope to go to the Santa Ana one sometime. I'll definitely check out the restaurants, I miss Lao food. I've been wanting to join a Lao community/organization, do you know of any? I mostly and only hear of the Thai ones.

I forgot to mention that there's another Lao restaurant/market in Anaheim called Thai and Lao Market. One side of the building houses the restaurant while the other side is the restaurant. Here's their address:
1721 W La Palma Ave Anaheim, CA 92801 Tel. 714-535-2656 I was told there's a lot of Hmong and Lao stuff in the Santa Ana and Anaheim areas. You can inquire either at the temple of restaurant/market about Lao associations. |
