(KPL) Champassak authorities have recently confiscated more than 800,000 cubic metres of kayoung (dalbergia) in four districts in the province.

The authorities also arrested 106 illegal loggers reportedly involved in illegal logging of the endangered species and investigation into their perpetration is underway. Four of the arrested are identified as Vietnamese nationals and another one as Chinese one.

Twenty-eight cars and 6 motorcycles used by the loggers were also confiscated.

Of the seized wood, over 526,000 cubic metres was confiscated in Pathoumphone district, 235,163 cubic metres in Mounlapamok district, 43,153 cubic metres in Paksong district and 38,467 cubic metres in Khong district.

Provincial State-Party Inspect Committee President, Mr. Niphone Viengpaseuth said that illegal logging and trafficking of endangered woods in Champassake province has been widespread since 2010, especially in Laos-Cambodia border areas or areas between Sekong-Attapeu, and Attapeu-Champassak and loggers are both locals and foreigners.

Sell those confiscated cars, bikes and woods and distribute the money to the villagers who are affected by these law breakers.

This is not the first time. How many time has they got alway before? Police should kept all their car and motorcycle.

On a bright side, they probably had to remove those UXOs first before coming in/cutting/removing the trees , thus the country need not to worry about the UXOs from these areas.

I'm just happy that government is cracking down and planning more tree too.

Timber bamboos would be really nice and they grow ' really fast' too!
