Title: Are Lao rappers plagiarising?
Post by Larb Dip on 31st May, 2011 at 9:22am
Seaw, can you decipher this for me? You don't need to give me a word for word translation. A concise sentence will do. :)

Does it divulge the Artist and track they alledgedly mimicked?

Pull-T club band withdraws from Lao Music Awards 2010

The Ministry of Information and Culture decided to withdraw the Best Hip Hop music awards from the band "Pull-T Club" due to their song is a copycat from other country. For more information, read the news below:

Booooo!!! Im a big fan of Pull-T club and just order their CD. Lao government don't know what they're talking about. They just rap about girl that's all nothing bad. Maybe that's why we don't hear much about L.O.G anymore.
>:( :(

My Lao CD just arrived. I would to dedicated L.O.G, Pull-T Club album to Lao minister of information, and culture who doesn't like rap music, but who might have their heart broken or fall in love with other people girlfriends, and to those who like partying at the club.

I have nothing against rap (Hardcore fan of SIX MIX-A-LOT), If they rap normally I can tolerate that.  The overuse of a Vocoder aka now known as Autotune is really freaken annoying.  The guy from the oil company that developed this software needs to be shot. >:(  A lot of talent has gone to waste because of it.

Did you order these online from Laos, bro? Some CDs look glossy, just wating to ripped into. :)

You MUST be a HUGE fan of Lao music. How long before you learn every song off by heart? :D

I got these CD from Laopromotion.com for $5 each. I just started to listen to Pull-T Club and their album is very very good. I like most of their song. I like L.O.G too, but didn't get a chance to listen to other CD yet. I bump Lao rap in my car and at a house party. Most Lao people are very impress. They really like that they're rapping in Lao.

I grew up in America and listen to American gangster rap. Now I'm going back to Lao root and supported Lao entertainment. Plus Lao music are better then before and really good. If Pull-T Club was in Lao music award they'll win for sure.
  ;) :)

They don't used auto tune that much. Their album is very good. I give them credit, they can really rap and in Lao.They rap about girl, love nothing bad at all. Not like American rapper who rap about murder, killing, sex and drug. I rather see Lao-American kids listen to Lao rap then American gangster rap.
;)

Music is different.  If you want be respected by the world or people in general you have got to have originality.  There is nothing wrong with copying melodies, etc...as long as they have permission from the original artist or record label and also give credit where credit is due.  Remember the controversy between Coldplay and Joe Satriani?  Coldplay's take on melody was spot on identical to Satriani, however the lawsuit was dismissed by the court in favor of Coldplay.

I also agree with you in regards to positive messages sent out to audiences by Lao rappers from Laos.  The Lao rappers here in the states are totally opposite, for example "Gumby", I don't know if you have heard of him.  He's a wannabe disgrace.  Everything in his song is sexual and beyond.

All in all, I think Laos' Ministry of Information and Culture made a good call to pull those rappers from the contest. The right decision! There's nothing wrong with sampling certain components of a song, or even covering the entire track in all its likeness (WITH the consent of the original artists, of course). But to be rewarded for someone ELSES brainchild is a travesty! I've never heard of such madness. :)

How long did it take for your music to arrive?

By the way, what is auto tune?

Government only allow Lao hip hop in 2000. They monitor the music industry. You can't rap or say whatever you want. I like Lao rap because they don't say anything bad. It's also a good way to learn Lao. I'm pretty old too in my early 30's but still listen to rap.

Nothing wrong listening to rap at that age or any age overall, as long as you don't start changing your identity because of it. :) I see our Lao kids these days trying to be something they are not, by acting out and communicating through ghetto or gangster speech.  Let me clarify, if they were born here, I can understand and tolerate their behavior because they were influenced by the hip hop scene.  The ones I have problems with are the ones born elsewhere, moving here, and trying so hard to fit in, changing their whole identity and personality to be ghetto, or gangster.  You know where I'm getting at right? LOL

I am definitely 'old school' when it comes to music.  I mainly listen to glamour rock metal bands from the 80's and country music.  I thought Rap is dead already?

Or are they just acting for the music video?

No, not just music video, this is how many behave or act over here.  Some use this ghetto gangster excuse also to cause violence amongst others.  The crazy thing, you may know the phrase "nice guys finish last".  Well it's true,  many girls from rich or nice homes flock over many of these losers all the time.  When you hear news of death or cause of death it's mostly for this reason "girl dies because of jealousy involved".  What is it like in NZ?  Any of these pricks exist over there?

You sound scorned, Jack. ;D

These 'pricks' are over here too. And we have them in adundance! There are American copycat gangs everywhere. The Bloods, Crips, Hells Angels, Highway 69 etc. They sag their pants low enough to easily spy the residue of last nights dinner, in between the crevasse of their buttocks. If you know what I mean. ;D Their 'swagger' consists of robot-like mechanical movements: their shoulders - one after the other - move with the fluidity of a skier taking a stroll. Then there's also that sombre frown they walk around with! Very unapproachable. Most people do grow out of that futile lifestyle. However, the guys in that video look mid 20s/early 30s.

That lifestyle never appealed to you, Jack?

Then there's also that sombre frown they walk around with! Very unapproachable. Most people do grow out of that futile lifestyle. However, the guys in that video look mid 20s/early 30s.

That lifestyle never appealed to you, Jack?

Nope, currently over here even in their early or late 20-30s they still haven't grown out of it.  I don't know where LAO LXE gets "few act like that" maybe in his hometown of Minnesota.  I've been to Minnesota in the past...It's not known for gang life.  As for California or New York on the other hand is well known for hip hop, hip hop fashion or gangs which has a huge influence around the world.  I've lived in California nearly my entire life and I have seen changes over the years, I know.  I've been to Lao gangster parties, and I've witnessed it all.  The only reason I went was because of the word "party" involved. I couldn't resist.  ;D

Their way of life never appealed to me, I just think it's a waste especially when they don't grow out of it.

There're some in Minnesota, but not as bad as California. I grew up with that lifestyle and hangout with friend who are in a gang. California is gang capital of United States.
