Thai power firm helps Lao education make the grade

Ratchaburi Electricity Gene-rating Holding Plc of Thailand on Friday committed to allocate over 5 billion kip (20 million baht) to improve education in Laos.

Minister of Education Dr Phankham Viphavanh, representatives from both sides and other guests also attended the signing ceremony.

The first five-year phase of the project from 2011 to 2015 will provide scholarship support to promote educational opportunities and vocational skill development for students and educational personnel in Laos.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Mr Noppol said that since Ratchaburi Holding is committed to investing in Laos in the long term, as a responsible corporate citizen it has initiated a project of significant social responsibility.

The project is designed to support Laos's educational policy, which focuses on educational development in parallel with vocational skill development to produce individuals who can support the country's rising economic growth and foreign direct investments, particularly in the energy industry.

“The project expresses our social responsibility to Laos while stressing our long-term investment in the country. It also serves as a friendly gesture to mark the 60th anniversary of Laos-Thailand relations,” Mr Noppol said.
