It's Red shirt Lao Isan political rally. He speak Lao and say they proud to be Lao. About 40% of 65 million Thailand population, around 26 million is Lao. But ethnic Lao population in Laos is less then 4 million.

Isan red shirt are standup for their right and democracy. At least they can protest and form political party. They're the biggest politcal party and hold the most seat in parliament. They'll win election again and run Thai government. As long as there no more military coup.

OK I am not familiar with Thai politics but there was something happened about a year or two ago when the Thai airport had to be shut down for awhile and the leader of Thailand had to resign. What was that all about?

It's kind of like American politics. A rich, big corporation Republican and working middle class, poor Democrat.
Yellow shirt is the middle class and rich in Bangkok who protest at the airport to overthrew elected Isan government. Red shirt are majority from Isan, peasant and poor but they also has supported in other part of the Thailand. Rich vs poor, red and yellow. In other word red shirt Lao in Isan against yellow shirt Jek in Bangkok. For more infor about Thai politics Bangkokpost.com. ;) PEACE wrote on 16th May, 2011 at 5:55pm:

Sounded like Tahiland needs to split into Red Shirt Lao Issan and Yellow Shit Jek Bangkok. Laos can have Lao Issan again and problem solved ;).

Any separation only mean civil war and live lost. Last time red shirt protest about 90 were killed and 40 building in Bangkok were burn down. Southern Thai Muslim want independent and they been fighting for about 7 year and over 5,000 death.
I only hope for peace and don't want to see any pi nong Isan lose their life. Thailand election is coming up in July. Whatever Red shirt Isan want to do its up to them. :) PEACE wrote on 17th May, 2011 at 2:35am:

Title: Re: Red Shirt Isan, Northeast Post by Lao LXE on 17th May, 2011 at 5:42am
Jek Bangkok control the economies, wealth and the army. While Isan is left out and treat like second class citizens. Monthly income for Bangkokian is around $700 a month while in Isan it's only $230. There's a wide gap between the rich and poor. Isan is the poorest and most populated region in Thailand. This is the root of the politicals problem, we are seeing right now between red shirt and yellow shirt protester.

Most of us do not known where are majority of our ppl live. Issan is Lao. Our history was suck. We were the Losers. We need to learn from the past.
Jek and Keow are alway take advance on our ppl, we need to stand up for our pride if you have the Lao-Blood in you. |
Title: Re: Red Shirt Isan, Northeast Post by LaoCowboy on 17th May, 2011 at 8:52pm
WE ARE NOT LOSERS. We were displaced/misplaced by someone's past agenda. Yes we will learn from the past and move forward to a better future for everyone.

Will we REALLY learn? That too forgiving 'bo ben nyung' mindset needs to go! Until we think properly, nothing will change. People - our neighbours, left AND right (We all know which two I'm alluding to) will continue to take advantage of us, because we are who we are. This is a cutthroat world. Nobody is out to make friends, where money is involved. This is the ambivalance I feel towards my own people: on one hand we are good, forgiving, peaceful race. Too good for a promotion. On the other hand, it also looks like we're stupid. We need to take a tougher stance. People only do evil to you if you let them. While I'm on the subject: How come I don't see any Lao people on the world stage? |

Title: Re: Red Shirt Isan, Northeast Post by Lao LXE on 18th May, 2011 at 5:18am
Yea we Lao are too nice. The strong survive in these world. Foreign power will take advantage of you if you're too nice or weak. Can't trust nobody. Everybody has their own national interest and agenda.

Growing up in American most of my life I has no clues about Laos history, past and present. Until I start doing some research. They say "knowledge is power."
Agreed. They don't want us to know, divide and conquer. Many younger generation does not know about our history. Isan is with Thailand, Laos is with Vietnam. Either way seem like we still get screws. For hundred of year since annexed Isan in 1906, they did a good jobs brainwashing Isan under Thailification. But Isan know who they are, and they're keeping Lao culture, tradition going. 8-) Want Laos To Be Independence wrote on 17th May, 2011 at 7:29am:

Presently is 2011, there are many of our ppl are living aboard without land and country. We are lost people " Khon Lao" eating the sticky rice and PaaDaek. There are many of us can't return home due to the Communist Laos had the Blacklist on them. Forgive Who? Who is right and who is wrong? Trust the Communist Laos as like you are playing with a Cobla ( One stike that all it take).
I used to have a nice big house and land in Vientiane. Its not mine no more. I never sell them or give it away to no one, why I can't have them back? It just like the Gangster do a bussiness in US. You bussiness is my bussiness. That how the Communist Laos was did in past. I had and still have home in Thailand. Its mine and still mine.Did you see what is different between Thailand and Laos? Second class citizen in "Thailand" is better than No class in my own Homeland "Laos." |

"Second class citizen in "Thailand" is better than No class in my own Homeland "Laos."
Isan is a little better off then many in Laos. But at least there's peace and stability in Laos. Lao government had open up the country and welcome Capitalist. Unlike North Korea or Cuba. Laos is moving forward and developing. It'll take time. ;) :) |

We do not need to on the 'world stage'. We are very humbled of what we have or not have. We tend to follow and not lead and it is perferctly fine to follow.

If giving an opportunity. Whatever you can do Lao can do it too. Right now there's less opportunity in Laos for younger generation. That's why they go look for work in Thailand. But thing are changing for the better. Only time can tell.

LaoCowboy There is no way I can get it back. Unless I want to buy it from them and I don't think I can afford it.
It just like a poker tournament : The winners take it all. The Losers have to go or been kill. Texas style that how the Commi Lao did. Most ppl thought the Laos had been open up, but deep down inside it not. I have see my friends went there and run a small bussiness there, it doesn't last a year he had to come back to state for many bad reasons. Can't trust the Family, have to have connection ( corruption officials to be on you side) too. Before you can get the legal permit your pocket already ran out. Every things in Laos are more expensive than here(USA). I don't even can find a cheap stuff in Laos. Land in VT is very Expensive. |
Title: Re: Red Shirt Isan, Northeast Post by Lao LXE on 20th May, 2011 at 5:08am
Corruption is a problem. "absolute power corrupt." I never done business in Laos, but have heard about connection and corruption. Sad but true Laos is rank one of the corrupted country in the world.

Sounds like you have to do it 'under the table' to get your business to start. I still do not understand the whole situation. This is fairly recent?

Different people might have different experiences. Corruption is everywhere in the world. Sometime you have to experience it first hand to know. I don't know. I don't live in Laos or has any experience with business there.

Same here in the US, you have to be careful on what you are doing or you might get burned badly. Can you hire a lawyer in Laos? Are there lawyers in Laos?

Title: Re: Red Shirt Isan, Northeast Post by Lao LXE on 22nd May, 2011 at 3:32am
There's lawyer in Laos. But rule of law is not as strong or enforce like the U.S. In Asia money talk. Rich and elites is above the law.
