Title: Shoe repairman in Vientiane
Post by Lao Pride Administrator on 8th May, 2011 at 2:25am
In Laos, particularly in cities, we have a shoe repairman (also known as a shoe cobbler) who provide a shoe repair service on the streets, for those who want to get their shoes repaired, instead of buying a new pair.

It depends what you need fixing. Simple jobs cost 5,000 kip, less than $1 US.

Must be nice to have shoes to wear in Laos.  I remember not having shoes to wear in the jungle.  However I got shoes to wear after one of the militiary trucks got blown up near our town and we went to the blown up trucks to cut out the tires and made shoes from these tires. Those were the good old days in jungle of Laos ::).

You were definately in the poor echelon of Lao society if you didn't have any shoes to wear.

Some people in Laos these days still use old tires to make sandals or thongs to wear.

Not really. The merchant doesn't make much money.

There should be more determined people like this kid!

All that sleeping in their hammocks the majority of Lao people do won't get them anywhere.

That guy in the first photo - the guy being seen from a birds eye veiw - looks like an eight year old. ;D

How can he look like an eight year old, when we can't see his face?

His hands tell the story. He is probably in the same age range as the guy with him.
