Japan will assist Laos in expanding the aeroplane parking area at Wattay International Airport in Vientiane, to accommodate Boeing 747s for the Asia Europe Meeting at the end of 2012.
A commitment to the project was made at the first meeting of the Laos-Japan Senior Officials’ Diplomatic Consultation, which took place in Vientiane on Thursday.

Japan reaffirmed its support for Laos’ Seventh Five-year Socio-Economic Development Plan. However, Japan will cut its ODA budget by about 20 percent in the near future, according to a press release from the Lao Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

That would be great if they modernized the airport. That way when we go over next time we won't have an 11 lay-over in BBK.

Most people stop in Bangkok then go to Laos. I don't want to go to Thailand. Many Lao has relative in Thailand 40% of 65 million Thai population is ethnics Lao so most Lao stop there before Laos.

I would not go Bangkok. I've heard to Phnomh Penh and then to Vientiane is much better.

Thailand is a beautiful country. I just worry about political unrest. Last time red shirt protest they burn down 39 building in Bangkok, bomb go off daily during the protest and in the Southern Thailand.

It's about time they made plans to renovate that crumbling garage they call an airport. This is LONG overdue! :D

Thailand is more dangerous than Laos.  Mafia problem - what I've heard from relatives.

Why don't they build an airport farther away from Vientiane?  Northside would be better.

The New International Airport will be built a few kilometres from our farm in Saythany district 25 km. outside Vientiane off Road 13 south.


Old Man

Very good plan because the current airport is located on the westside of Vientiane.  That should help alot with reduction in noise pollution in the city.

Not at all.

It's not like aircraft will be landing every two minutes like in London Heathrow.

A new International Airport near us would increase our land value a lot and also increase economic activity for villagers in our neighborhood.

All good in my view.

Very good perspective and the new airport should generate more jobs for folks living up there near Route 13.
