Both child prostitution rings used two karaoke restaurants, located about 500 metres from a police station, as a front.

The child prostitutes are aged between 13 and 17.

They said their agents lured them and they received no payment as the brothel owners told them that their parents had to pay them more than 80,000 baht as transportation cost and business operation.

They said the brothels would not let them eat or drink until they eventually worked as sex workers. The brothels would then allow them to eat one meal a day.

All the rescued children were taken to Kred Trakarn rehabilitation centre by Mrs Paveena's foundation, as the DSI continued to investigate to arrest the wrongdoers.

People can report child abuse or violation of women's rights with the police or Paveena Hongsakul Foundation for Children and Women at 1134 hotline.

Very sad young Lao has less jobs, and opportunity so they go look for work in Thailand. Some are being traffick into prostitution.

Laos is getting better and developing, but will take time. Young Lao go work in Thailand because of better pay and similar culture. Worker in Laos get about $60-$100 a month, but $300 or more a month in Thailand. It's human nature people will go where there's jobs and opportunity. Young people have need, they want nice cothes, car, phone, game, motorcycle, materialistic stuff. Working in Thailand is one way to get them.

Because of bureaucracy, politic, corruption, bribery. They say open business in Laos is one of the hardest place in the world. Laos business ranking is 171 out of 187. Vietnam rank 71, Thailand 39 and Singapore is number 1. Wonder why Singapore so wealthy and prosper. They're very business friendly.

You have to know everything from law to regulation before open business in Laos. Maybe you also need connection. Growing up in America we are used to democracy system and rule of law, but in Asia and other part of the world it might be different story.

There girl are force to work in sex trade. They're beat up, rape and sometime murder. The pimp usually lied to them telling them they'll work in good company in Thailand, and make good salary.

I think some might, but most don't. They're poor it's human nature people will do whatever to survive. Some has no jobs, no income, no opportunity. Human trafficker is to blame not the victims.

Are those traffickers Lao or Thai?

I think most are Thai, but some Lao also work with them. Most likely they not going to tell these girl that they are going to work in sex trade. They'll tell them they need worker in manufacture, house cleaning, restaurant stuff like that.

We all have a conscience. I'm sure cautious thoughts crossed their minds more than once.

In the U.S under the age of 18 is a minors. These pimp, humane trafficker would get at least 5-10 year in jail here. They starved, beat and rape these girl to force them to work as sex worker. Doesn't matter if they want to do or not. These pimp need to get a death penalty. If you ask me.

Singapore and Mexico are in the top tiers too. That was in the same article. I'm sure they were 'estimates' or educated guesses. I highly doubt the reporters are going around taking tallies.

I'm gonna look for that article and post the link just for your peace of mind. (I must have read it - in the physical form - 5 or so years ago , though.) ;)

Larb Dip, "Saam Yaak" refers to a T-Intersection, and "Pakpasak" is the name of a village area in Vientiane. Both pictures are pretty recent from early this year, but prostitutes don't work permanently in one location.


Chris, He can be bothersome at times, but he's Lao and that's probably saving him at the moment. Some foreigners come here for information about marriages in Laos, and you've been there, done that, and your help to our members and lurkers is valuable and much appreciated.
