Laos and Thailand. We may have our differences, but we are still neighbours.

Here's a question:
Why do all the older Lao ALWAYS go out of their ways to PLEASE our Thai neighbours (neighbours is all we are. NO MORE NO LESS)?. We all know this type of brotherly love isn't mutual. |

Isn't agriculture industry much better from the Thailand side? I ask this is because land west of the Mekong looks much flatter because of the floodplain and floodplain has better soil for plants to grow, whereas the Laos side is more mountainous.

Title: Re: Lao-Thai, ban ai muang nong. Post by Lao Democratic on 15th Apr, 2011 at 5:06am
That's correct. That's why Thailand is the largest rice exporter in the world because of Isan. If Isan was still part of Laos we wouldn't have problem with food shortage. But sometime they do have drought and flood.
Laos is mostly mountainous and has many river. But Laos are rich in mineral resource, the river is good for hydropower. :( :-? PEACE wrote on 15th Apr, 2011 at 3:23am:

Yes French gave Isan to Thailand in 1907 and Laos has no say. They also force deported most of Laos population to Thailand. That's why today about 40% of Thai population is ethnics Lao. That's around 26 million. ;) :D |

Without the French colonization then we will be at least 32 million strong and have both sides of the Mekong River still to this day. Who knows we could over Siam as well :o.

I think the french actually saved Laos from extinction. Lets be honest here. Who knows, we might be calling ourselves 'Issan' by now if it wasn't for the colinization.
GOD FORBID!. |

I agree with Old Man.
There's a good in every bad. Lets just be grateful we're not uncle Toms to the Thai like our Issan brethren. Past is the past. Time to move towards the future pinong. Heres a bit of trivia: The 'commies' don't even consider our kin across the mekong as Lao any more. I saw it on one of the videos of 1proudLao's Youtube channel. I think all Lao have seen his videos by now. Heres the quote: 'Kauw pen khon Thai la'. They are Thai now. Obviously the government officials who have influence don't care. Why should the rest of us? |
Title: Re: Lao-Thai, ban ai muang nong. Post by MrLao4ever on 16th Apr, 2011 at 3:24am
I have to agree with you on this one. 'Issan' spelling and pronunciation are very close to 'Insane' :D. Laos sounds uniquely better.

That is the right mentality to go for us. We need to go forward. We have a sizeable land coverage and only 6 million people strong, we can upgrade ourselves, as a one whole unit, and be better than our neighbors.

Isan mean northeast. They trying to confuse people with the name that Isan is not Lao. Isan was not allow to learned, write or speak Lao at school.
Actually all Mekong river is Laos and Vientiane was in the middle of Laos. They moved Laos capital to Vientiane to escape from Burmese invasion. 8-) PEACE wrote on 16th Apr, 2011 at 3:24am:

Agreed we can learn from the past mistake and moved forward. Laos was invaded, exploited and control because there were no unity within 30 million Laotian. We can forgive but not forget.

When you country is colonized, and control by foreigner there's more bad then good. Vietnam control Laos since 1975 well our county is still the least developing nation as a result. Our education system, health care, economy is behind our neighbor. We were control by foreigner then we're still control by foreign now.
Issan know they're Lao, they speak Lao, eat padak and khao neo. I been to Isan visiting relative in Udon Thani when I was a kids. Isan village is no different then Lao village, same culture, food, language. ::) Larb Dip wrote on 16th Apr, 2011 at 3:20am:

Title: Re: Lao-Thai, ban ai muang nong. Post by Lao Democratic on 16th Apr, 2011 at 5:29am
That's true since the fall of Chao Anouvong. The whole Laos territory was annexed and colonized by Thailand. That's why Lao Royal family ask French to come in and help, but they end up colonized us. Same with Vietnam we ask them to help fought Vietnam war. Now we are colonized by them. Same old same old. History keep repeating itself when will LAO ever learn.
If not because of the French we will be Thai Issan East, and West of Mekong River right now. :o ::) Larb Dip wrote on 16th Apr, 2011 at 3:10am:

What is your basis for stating that Laos is colonized or controlled by Vietnam? It isn't. Laos is independent but, of course, influenced by China, Thailand, Vietnam, Japan, Australia, etc. |
