I have a few enquiries in regards to the Lao casinos. Maybe someone can set the record straight here:
1) Local Lao are prohibited from entering. If you do not possess an INTERNATIONAL passport, don't even bother turning up. True? 2) Are there any Casinos in Vientiane? 3)How many Casinos are there already in Laos? 4) Do they play Lao games in these casinos? Will we see old women seated in circles getting their game on? 5) For the guys: any Duc Deh? You all know the game. Played with 6 cards. When you get to the last 2, you stack one on top of the other, then nonchantly slide them apart to reveal your fate. I would like to put my skills to the test with locals to see how I stack up. Where can I go to have a proper game (with real competition) of Duc Deh in Laos? |

Answer
1) Local Laotians can enter the casino. 2) There's no casinos in the city of Vientiane, but there's one just outside of Vientiane (Dansavanh Casino). I've been there, and I remember a Chinese or maybe he was a Malaysian-Chinese guy, tried to hook up on me. 3) There's at least three casinos in Laos. 4) I don't know about traditional Lao games, but there are gaming tables and slot machines. |

I would hope that no Casinos would be allowed in Vientiane proper. Keep them all in the same area outside of the city. The income would still stimulate the economy, yet without ruining the culture of the city.

RESPONSE 1) That's not what I heard. What I heard was: 'If you don't have a international passport, they (the casino security) won't let you in'. However, if YOU say otherwise, then I'll let it be. 2) How far is Dansavanh Casino from Vientiane? Is it within walking distance? I would really like to go try my luck. So, some Chinese gut tried to hook up 'WITH' you? OOWWHH HEEUUWW!!! LOL! You must look TWICE as nice in person. :D 3) 3 isn't much. Maybe more is needed. 4) Do they have poker too? I'm assuming you, too, bought a few chips yourself. Here's a curious question: What games did you spend your money on? 5) Why won't you answer this question? Duc Deh is the sht! Even all the pusaos I know play it! |

1) Well, they let me enter the casino at Dansavanh. Either I am a special local Lao, or this particular casino is open for all. 2) You can walk there if you want, it might take you half a day. 1-2 hours by car. 3) I don't think we need more casinos in Laos. 4) Yes, they have poker. I didn't gamble because I didn't have any money. I spent my time using the internet and having a meal. Normally you have to pay to use the net, but the generous staff at Dansavanh let me use it for free. 5) You said the question was "for the guys". |

REQUEST
PLEASE ANSWER THE QUESTION! Do they have competitions or anything of the sort in Laos? This is what we usually do to kill time: play cards. At work on our breaks, on the weekends, it doesn't matter. We play for money or for beer. It doesn't matter! |
Title: Re: Should Laos build more Casino like Las Vegas? Post by Lao Pride Administrator on 11th Apr, 2011 at 12:33am
I'm not a gambler, but I don't think so. Playing cards for money is illegal in Laos, with the exception of casinos.

I think Laos need more and more casino like Las Vegas. It'll bring more tourist, and taxes revenue for the government. It'll also created a lot jobs. In Las Vegas it just desert that's why they build casino. The main employer is gambling industry employing about 570,000 people. Earning about $7 billion a year in revenue.
Laos is not industrialized, have ocean, oil or natural gas. Tourist is the second largest income earner in Laos after mining. Can you imagine if Laos was like Las Vegas and employ at least 500,000 worker. Lao citizens should allow to gamble at casino. Only those with money will play. ;) :) ::) :o Admin Saovaluck wrote on 10th Apr, 2011 at 11:45pm:

Not a good idea. Vientiane should not be another 'Sin City'.

Sin city with rule of law and regulation. Las Vegas was pretty safe and fun. Casino will bring in more tourist to Laos and created jobs for the locals. There's pro and con. I think the benefits out weight the negative.
Have you been to Las Vegas? Not too far from Texas. ;) |

The last time I went to the casino in Dansavanh, admission was free for foreigners but Lao people had to pay.
I was told the reason was to keep out people who were just curious and they only wanted to let in people who were actually going to put down money and gamble. I've won (at roulette) every time I've been there, but I use an infallible method which takes a long time and requires patience and an ability to restrain impulsive betting. However it works every time - to the extent that many international casinos ban punters using the method. Luckily for me, Dansavanh Casino haven't yet banned the method. Maybe they don't know. |

I didn't have to pay, and I didn't place any bets either. Maybe they thought I was a foreigner, or a beautiful local who deserves free entry.
Well done. If the system works for you then keep using the same tactic. |

Drove through the city and did not hang around to gamble but mainly wanted to see Hoover Dam and the geology of the region. Not really into the glitz/glamour of Sin City. I am a country boy still 8-).

old man, I love to play roulette. It is my favorite game. If you don't mind can you share your secret of infallible method. I have my method too, but not always win though. Maybe I need to have patience...lol I went to Savan Vegas while I was in Laos last year. I went with local people we did not have to pay anything to get in. I did not even have to show my passport. I think they have almost every games that play in Las Vegas. I think Savannakhet is good place to have casino because not many tourist attractions like Pakse or Vientaine or Luangprabang. It's like a boring place to live, if you know what I mean and it's a central city in Laos. Whoever came up with the idea to have casino in Savannakhet is smart. I don't recommend having casinos in Vientaine. |

Not a bad idea LaoguySocal. I just want to see more casino and other development in Laos. Savannakhet is a good location. It's close to Thai, Cambodia and Vietnam border. Why not build more. Lao citizen are not allow to play, but sometime I don't think they really check.

They don't check your ID? Sometime if you just play for fun you can get lucky. A friends just won $4,000 from a slot machine last week. Well she took that money and vacation in Laos right now. Sometime I won but not much $50-$150. But I won $700 at Las Vegas once and lose all it back. When I got too greedy and try to win more.

Most player are also white and Asian. In Las Vegas some of the casino owner are foreigner. China, Qatar, Isreal, Canada. About 40 million people a year visited Las Vegas every year. People from all over the world and the U.S go there. And most people there work in gambling industry. Dealers, cook, security, delivery, accountant, waitress, cashiers, janitors, valet parking stuff like that. ;) :o |

It's the same over here bro. There are so many degenerate Chinese gamblers. Some literally 'live' in the casinos. So much so, the casino has started to employ people who look alike so that the gamblers feel more at ease. They are, however, forbidden to exchange dialogue in any other language than English. Conversing in that squeaky language of theirs would just sound too conspiratorial, right? |
