To all Lao ethnic guys,

Admin. had agree to show pictures of herself in 'traditional' Lao outfits if we all can have our pictures shown in LP Forum. So you all should step up to the plate and reveal yourself as well.

I don't have any pictures of myself in a traditional Lao outfit sorry, and I didn't agree to post more pictures of myself at this time, but that's a nice picture of you. The first Lao guy to reveal himself so that's something. I guess you workout?

When you say commies it's the government not the people. I disagree with their system of governing too but it's not going to stop me from expressing my political view/opinion. Time's change they can't do anything about it.

That's true. Not much we can do. Laos is peaceful and moving forward. Maybe if Lao government can developed Laos like China or Singapore. Then they got my votes.

No there is no such equivalent for 'krup' of 'ka'. It's unnecessary in Laos. Just say what you got to; minus 'krup'/'ka'.

You say "Jaow" in Laos to acknowledge the person speaking to you, which is the equivalent of "Krup" and "Ka".

If the taxi driver says "der", I guess he means "do you agree with the taxi fare?"

He might say something like "sip pun kip der" which means "are you okay with 10,000 kip?"

I do apology for not be able to show my self..because I am in the process of planning to go back home in not so long distance....I don't want to spend my time in the Lao prison jail on my retirement.....Beside...I am old and not a pretty sight to look at......like most of you......... :D

He said der was "same same" krap. Sounds like it is closer to saying chai mai krap though. Granted I was speaking to him in a combination of Thai and English so there was probably some miscommunication :D

Well, I'm not sure where he got that from, but "Jaow" is the same as "Krup" as far as I am concerned. Maybe some miscommunication too.

If people talk to you in Laos, you answer them with "Jaow" which is a polite way of saying "yes", and shows that you're listening to them. Or if you are young then you say "doy".

Pre- or Post-Communist Laos I really do not care and on what ever my politcal viewpoint is. One thing for sure is that I am still 100% khonLao living in the great USA. My heart, soul and spirit will always be in Laos. Personally I have nothing to fear on whatever I think about Lao gov't. All I know right now is that there are changes in Laos and hoping all khonLao benefit from these changes.

Nothing fancy - 15,000 situps, 10,000 pullups, 10,000 pushups (per year).

Where and How to add a picture below our name?

Yep, that's Yosemite National Park alright. Pretty nice up there.

Agreed. We need to move on and look to the future. Personally I still have relatives (6 families) in Laos and I am sure they are not well off just like most everyone else in the country side. Hopefully I can help them by creating jobs for them in the near future.

I also have some relative in Vientiane. They're doing ok some are rich businessmen, some are university student, farmer and skilled labors who work in construction during dry season. At least there's peace and stability in Laos. :o
