This is a 'good luck' party, I think, where the house inviites the monks to come over and wish inviduals good luck. I have not been to or experience this event since I was a boy - 30 years ago and do not exactly remember what is involved especially with the 'money tree' or something like that.

Yes, usually when people move into a new house, they invite monks over to wish everyone luck, good health, keep the ghosts away from the house and those sorts of things.
The ceremony is called "soot lot nam", and some people have it once in a while. |

I remember when I was a kid that people tie money to the 'tree' and money goes to the monks and temple is that right? I am out of touch with my culture Admin. and trying to get it back to my soul.

Yes, the money is a donation to the monks and temples, and anyone can tie money to the "tree" which is called a "galaphuk". |
