We will be in Laos from May 9 to May 21. Probably mostly in Vientiane and Savannakhet areas.

Are there any special events or sites that I should try to see? I really want our trip to be very memorable to us both.

Also, are there any places that I can take my wife that is very romantic around Vientiane or Savannakhet?

Have fun on your trip to Laos William. Luang Prabang, Vientiane, Savannakhet, Pakse is a good city to visit.

I've only passed Savannakhet on the way to Champassak, so I haven't actually seen the sites, but I'm told that there's nothing of great interest to do. There's a dinosaur museum there and some old temples so they might be something of interest.

As for Vientiane, it's the party centre of Laos. May is the end of the Lao New Year festivities, but there'll be a rocket festival in surrounding areas.

The site I mentioned above has a romantic floating restaurant on the river.

There is another site outside of Vientiane that is very popular with Vientiane residents - Tha Nong. It is a collection of floating restaurants also on the Nam Ngum river. I can't remember exactly how far out of the city it is, but I think Administrator will know. I'm betting she's been there more than once.
