Browsing through pictures from the some of the back-threads I noticed a few black people participating in the songkran festivities. Do theses guys actually live in Vientiane? Or are the just in transit?

How about other races? Is Laos starting to become more multicultural?

We call it "Songkhan" in Laos.

There are some black people in Laos. Most of them, however, are tourists. There are also people with Indian/Pakistani background, and I see many white people.

We refer to them as "Puak Khek" down here. They run all the dairies - in the USA they call them corner stores. When we need to make a quick purchase, we just say: "pay seu gub buc khek" (buy it at the Indian shop). do they run the same business in Laos?

Nearly all "Khek India" and "Khek Pakistan" in Laos are wealthy. You don't often come across any of them poor.

They run businesses and they understand Lao language too. They usually sell jewellery and fabric materials.

I bet a few have trophy wives too

What about the different Lao skin tones? (Chinese and Viets not included). I know Lao people vary in complexion. Is there more light skin (like yourself) or more darker tones (like the current president)?
Or is it mixed? I'm asking about Vientiane.

As far as Vientiane only, I'd say 50/50.

Those who are usually indoors are generally lighter than those out in the sun all day. Does it really matter though?

No it doesn't. But I was just curious.

Laos is a multi culture society. Most are tourist but there are 48 different ethnicity living in Laos. Viet, Thai, Chinese, Hmong, Khmue, Khmer, European and so on.

One person speaking in broken Lao, and the other in broken English, funny but I guess the communication can be understood.

'Lao Family Law' - Foreigners cannot engage in any sexual activity with the local girls unless if official marriage.  $5000 fine or go to jail.  Anyway very expensive way pay for pleasure :(

Good law now officials just need to enforce it more. Government need to provide better jobs and opportunity so young people don't turn to sex trade to make a living.

I disagree. "Prosties" can be found everywhere in Laos. They are always on the prowl. Do you notice how they catch the bus out to the next district to "work"? It seems even "prosties" have shame.

Southern Laos tend to have the less number of working girls.
