Drug abuse worries Vientiane province

(KPL) Drug abuse is reportedly very severe in Vientiane province, according to Head of the Provincial Committee on Drug Control and Supervision.

Mr. Khamphay Lardsavong said that over 1,500 people in the province were drug addicts and these include 620 opium addicts and 72 marihuana smokers. 15 people in the province have been found guilty of selling drug, excluding 354 people found guilty of selling amphetamine.

Mr. Khamphay said that the committee was collecting data on drug addicts and sellers to set plan on rehabilitating and treating drug addicts.

�Although the authorities in the province have actively paid attention to the prevention of drug issues, but drug addiction continues to increase in the province severely. Therefore, all people in the province are encouraged to participate in controlling and preventing drug use and opium production,� said Vice-Governor of Vientiane province, Mr. Bounmy Phouthavong.

Maybe news is slow for them today.

The drug abuse is nothing that we didn't already know, and the problem is not just Vientiane specifically, but other parts of the nation.

Very sad to hear that many young Lao are getting involve with drug. I hope they get treatment and help that they need. But government might not have enough fund for drug treatment. In American drug and alcohol is also a big big problem here.

Some people get sent to jail in Laos, to deal with their drug addiction if it's causing a major problem. Another solution is to go through a drug rehabilitation treatment.

Yes, even famous stars in America have issues with drugs, so the problem is worldwide and anyone can be addicted to them if they're not careful, or not getting enough help.

Some celebrity in the U.S are using drug. I think they like to have fun and has lot of money to buy any drug they want. I think its human nature when you have everything you want, and all the money in the world. You'll get bore. The more you have the more you want. When it come to money it's never enough.

Prescription drugs led to her demise, but she was forced to take them constantly as child to keep her in good shape so she got hooked on them.

So sometimes it's not always about having fun and wasting money on drugs, celebrities are also human and they find it hard to get off once they're on it.

You can't blame nobody but yourself. People like to party and have fun. For celebrity they can party all day long and do as they please because they has lot of money. That's why many died of drug overdose.

Are you asking about gang in Laos or in the US? In the US there're organized crimes and a lot of gang too, but police is cracking down. There're bad apple in every tree. The population of US is 300 million.
