Lao new years is just around the corner. Since I'm the boss and have a bit of time up my sleeve I just wanted to make some enquiries in regards to all the Lao communities worldwide! Every year we (Auckland & Wellington) always compete in a sports competition. This year Auckland are going down to Wellington. The hosting rights rotates annualy. This tradition has been going on since our fathers' generation and now the new blood has taken over. We always kick Wellington's asses, by the way. It's not held on the exact new years dates, but close. This year it'll be held between April 22 (Good Fridy) and april 25 (Easter Monday/Anzac Day) and bridged by the weekend. Thats four days off. What I really wanted to know is: what about in other Lao communities all around the world? Do they have such a 'custom'? What about back home in our beloved Laos, anything of the sort?

Lots of this. http://www.armchairgeneral.com/forums/picture.php?albumid=484&pictureid=4367 This boat race is between rural villages on the Nam Ngum river outside Vientiane and opposite our farm. Races in Vientiane city are much more massive. |

Any other sports? It must be a real festival atmosphere. It usually is when Lao are involved. We usually party with abandon! :) |
