We still view Hmong people as ethnic minorities. Hmong hill tribes are different, but some Hmong people who blend in with lowland Lao people may follow Lao beliefs and practices.

The gentlemen in front with a beer belly is a Hmong. Politics is not my thing so I don't know his name, but a high position, I believe a Governor of Vientiane. There are also some Hmongs with low-key roles in Luang Prabang.

Laos is a melting pot society. About 45% of Laos population are ethnic minority. Hmong Lao shouldn't have any problem living in Laos unless you're trying to cause problem.

Longhang, I'm not sure if you realize how backward your misconceptions of Laos are. I strongly suggest you to visit Laos someday, its a very pleasant place to be regardless of your nationality or ethnicity. Yes, I've seen many black tourists in Laos, and I'm pretty sure there's at least a few living there.

Hmong people are featured on Lao currency and also stamps, so obviously we have a high regard for them.
Hmongs are not being killed or murdered in Laos, whether they hold a high position or they are just an ordinary farmer. Many evidence proves that the Hmongs are accepted in Lao society. |
