It looks like I'm going to be in Laos for New Year's Eve this year. Where is a good place to be for some dinner and dancing on this day? I'd like to take my wife some place nice.

I can't say. I don't often go out for dinner, not a danceaholic either. I'm a workaholic and a homeaholic. :)

I hope you find a nice place near the Nam Phou Fountain square in Vientiane.

The Lao New Year is more significant than the worldwide New Year. That's when the real party begins.

Don chan palace hotel had a dinner/dance/fashion show last year

There's always something happening at the Don Chan Palace Hotel.

Expensive place....Many foreigners, wealthy locals and prostitutes go there for entertainment every night.
