The second Thai-Lao Friendship Bridge over the Mekong River was opened in late 2006, and connects Savannakhet in southern Laos with Mukdahan in north east Thailand.
The bridge is 1,600 metres long and 12 metres wide, with two traffic lanes. |

Look very nice. Are they building the fourth bridge in Bokeo province? Landlink Laos will become the new silk road of Southeast Asia, and battery of ASEAN. Great for Laos and SE Asian economy. I hope they build more.

The new bridge will boost border trade between the two country. Thailand is already one of Laos top investors and biggest trading partner. Follow by China and Vietnam. Thailand invested about $2 billion in the past ten year in Laos. And the trade between the two neighbor worth about $1.7 billion a year.

Yes, there will be another bridge in Bokeo.
Bridge or no bridge, trade between Laos and Thailand have been going on for hundreds of years. |

Lan Xang, Bridges are convenient for visitors, but it also means more heavy trucks from Thailand arrive into Laos. Hundreds of trucks are the major cause of traffic jams in Vientiane, which stretches many kilometres during peak hours.

Yea we has same situation here in the states. When people go to work in the morning or get off work. Almost everybody here have a car so more traffic. It seem like there is alway road construction here. I think they just need to build more road and expand existing road in Laos. But very very expensive. As economic and population grow traffic will get worse. |
