Title: Bananas in Laos
Post by Lao Pride Administrator on 19th May, 2010 at 9:22pm
Bananas grow in abundance in Laos.

Laos have among the cheapest bananas in the world, a bunch of manzano bananas usually cost 5,000 kips (US 58 cents) and may be as low as 3,000 kips (US 35 cents).

Pankeo,Yes same place, the area to go into the Kuadin market.

I noticed the little boy picking his nose. Also the bananas in the basket appear black. It's not rotten yet, this is perfectly normal to eat but the price will be cheaper than a yellow coloured banana.

These bananas are fantastic!  Nothing tops Asian fruits and vegetables because it's all organic.  Here in the states fruits and vegetables tend to get larger every year.  In Laos we see 5-10 pumpkins, in the US we see world records 500-1400 pound pumpkins, talk about unnatural growth. LOL

Look at that second photo:

Why are there so many Lao flags cantilevered out of windows, or are hanging from a stick imbeded into the wall of their houses?

Is this government policy (propaganda)? Or are Lao people just proud and want to display their pride?

I hardly ever saw the Lao banner being flown in the rural Villages of Vientiane; in the city, Lao flags are EVERYWHERE.

They fly Lao flags out in the countryside as well.

Many people put out flags for the National Day celebrations in Laos by their own choice. They decided to keep it there.

Don't you guys have any Lao pride?

It's because you're 'Thai', right? >:(

I'm Lao, ethnically.

Flying the Lao flag on residential properties is a little overboard. They are usually reserved for businesses. The second photo that you are referring to, are all businesses with flags.

Are you 'Thai' spiritually?

I bet you have the Siamese banner, don't you? A portrait of THEIR king, which your father idolises, hung in your living room too?

Larb Dip, I'm Lao and western spiritually. We don't have a portrait of the Thai King, but we have a calendar with a picture of him.

Lao Lan Xang, How can you support both flags?

Bro, where did you get that 3 headed elephant flag from?

I had to settle for the 'Commy' version. I still have a wall in my garage reserved for it - opposite the Commy version.

To me the flag represent the past and present. I love Laos and Laos great history. War been over for 35 year. I want to see our people, government united, move forward, and help build the country. I want to see peace and prosperity in Laos.

I'm a new generation. I have not experience Laos civil war and conflict. Many Lao-American wear 3 head elephant flag t-shirt and current flag. I'm not a refugee like Larb Dip said. I left Laos at age 11. I does not have any bad memory about Laos.
;) :D
