We met the team of "Lao Star Channel" at their office and we were invited to go along and take photos during some of their programs around Vientiane.
The two gentlemen in blue and lime colour shirts are the faces of Lao Star, the most well known TV channel in Laos. |

Are these guys really "stars"? Couldn't they find better looking guys in Laos, these guys look too ordinary to be on TV. I thought in Laos/Thailand it was all about the looks and appearances, the 17 year old models and the cosmetic surgeries.

That's very funny.
They are probably not "good looking" for some people, but they know how to talk on TV. |

Does anybody actually watch Laostar? Maybe I'm just too used to watching American TV, but having watched Laostar it many many times, I can't imagine that they have a decent-sized audience.
Aside from the news and music videos all of their programs are quite bland. I really admire their effort however, I think they are doing a fine job progressing. I just wish they could come up with a bit more clever programming. Maybe try to do an actual show or skits. |

Lao Star Channel is still fairly new (3 years old), so hopefully we should see some improvement in the future.

Larb Dip, I'm not a huge TV watcher but music videos, cooking lessons, beauty contests, other festivals and ceremonies are also televised.
William, As far as I'm aware, there's no English broadcast and captioning on Lao Star. |

That's okay, probably not a big demand for that over there. I will just have to learn Lao faster. |

I have a hunch that you're more of a reader than ahything. Am I right? Are there any bookstores in Laos? Anywhere, where you can pickup the latest best sellers or anything of the sort? I am enquiring about books printed in English, of course. |
Title: Re: Lao Star Post by Lao Pride Administrator on 20th Mar, 2011 at 5:47am
Yes, I enjoy reading and writing. Bookstores selling English books are located in the tourist areas of Vientiane, which is the riverbank areas.

How vast are their selections? How often are their books updated? Now I'M getting excited. It must co$t quite a bit for new book in Laos, doesn't it? What type of writting do you do 'nang'? The concise replies you post on this forum are too short for my liking and don't really give-away much. ;) |
Title: Re: Lao Star Post by Lao Pride Administrator on 20th Mar, 2011 at 8:22am
I don't go to the book shops so I don't know how often they are updated, sorry.
