Title: Bus station in Vientiane Post by Lao Pride Administrator on 30th May, 2009 at 9:13am
This bus station is located opposite the Morning Market in central Vientiane. The buses here take people to northern Laos and places within Vientiane. To travel to southern Laos, people need to catch the bus at another station.

Does the bus runs down to Pakse (taking Route 13?)? If so is Route 13 paved?

Yes. Yes. Yes. Get the bus at the Southern Bus Station near the Dong Dok intersection on Road 13 south. |

Hi admin,
which bus station do I go to if I wanna go to bolikhamxay? khua din? |
Title: Re: Bus station in Vientiane Post by Lao Pride Administrator on 18th Apr, 2011 at 9:23pm
MrLao4ever, Yes, it takes around 10 hours from Vientiane to Pakse on a VIP bus. Maybe longer on a regular bus.
VIP buses are the comfortable buses with air conditioning and a toilet, and they only stop once for a 10 minute break in Savannakhet. The regular buses stop frequently for toilet breaks and picking up/dropping off passengers along the road. However, the fare is cheaper. Chuck, This bus station is situated in the Kua Din area of Vientiane. The buses at the southern bus station go to Bolikhamxay. You have two options. You can catch a regular bus, or one of the pickup trucks similar to the pictures below. They are also located at the southern bus station. |

I bet the scenery is very nice with mountains, hills and valleys along Route 13. Are there good rock exposures next to the road?

So Kua Din is the name of the southern bus station? Admin, do you have any idea how long it takes from Vientiane to Paksan? Im coming this 30th of April which I know the general election will be going on that day is there going to be any problem? |
Title: Re: Bus station in Vientiane Post by Larb Dip on 19th Apr, 2011 at 8:15pm
Why should there be a problem? Unless if you stage a protest, or show any political dissent, you'll be fine. Laos is one of the safest locations in universe.
I said it before, but I will say it again: I LOVE LAOS; BUT FUKKKK THE 'COMMIES'. ;D |

Larb Dip:
I was thinking of recommending this website to my two teenage sons, but if they're going to encounter language like that and the other content you are so fond of posting, there's no way I can. And since you, your content and your language are a perpetual presence here, I'm beginning to doubt whether I should continue with my own membership. Old Man |

Chuck, No, "Kua Din" is the name of the central bus station opposite the Morning Market that is pictured above. There might be a bus to Paksan there too actually, because some buses go to Thakhek.
I'd go to the southern bus station to be sure, since they deal with all travels to the southern regions of Laos. Vientiane to Paksan takes about 2 hours or a bit more. The southern bus station is in Dong Dok that we call "Sai Tai". Ask any jumbo or tuk tuk driver to take you to "Lot mea, sai tai" (Southern bus station), for around $4 US depending on your negotiation, or you can catch a bus there for a fixed price of 2,000 kip (25c US). Larb Dip is right. Elections won't affect your travel plans, unless you plan to interrupt to their proceedings. |

We like you here Old Man. Larb Dip how about "I love Laos not Commies." I agreed with Old Man there's no need for profanity.

I wish he'd drop the hating Party members comments, too. I'm sure he's never met one, and inane comments like "I hate *****!" don't help anyone or change anything. It's worth considering that when you say "Lao people are really nice!" that Party members and those in government are Lao people, too - and the majority of them are nice, too in the same way as other Lao people. I know many people in the government and the great majority are good people. If you met one of them, you'd certainly like them and you'd probably buy them a beer. By the way Lao Democratic, we delivered your donated school materials to a rural primary school yesterday and they were very well received. They asked me to relay thanks to you. I'll be putting up photos in the next day or so. Old Man |

Good point Old Man. Not much we can do about politics. We are just civilians and not in authority of power. If we love Laos do something about it, and help support the development anyway we can. I just want to see Laos prosper and modernized that's all.
Good to hear Old Man. Next time I'll send a box of school supply with other stuff like kids dvd and soccer ball. Please posted the picture when you have time. I know other LP member also want to donated. It might give them some encouragement. When the next school semester started in Laos? :) ;) |

My apologies old man. You have been a gentlemen about things lately. I'm not here to waste my time on here fighting. It seems you have the same motive. You're right about the foul language though. Maybe I could have used a euphemism or two. I used that certain word to emphasise my disdain for the unfair treatment of Laos' innocent. From now I will be less direct in my hate mails: just for your sake. As for the recurring theme that circulates whenever Yours Truly posts, I can't make any promises in that regard. From now now I will just keep it to a need to know basis. To be honest: I was enquiring to see how much my best friend the admin' was willing to divulge concerning Laos' underbelly. I was just pumping her for the sake of pumping, so to speak. It doesn't seem like she minds. I'm sure you noticed that too. :) |

You're right (again), I don't know any government officials personally. I'm sure they ARE decent strereotypical easy going Lao people. I'm just against what they stand for, but even more so for how they operate! I'm going to use sports as an analogy here: As soon as you don your team colours and step out on the paddock, you are willing to do anything to come out on top, right? A broken rib or two isn't gonna stop you from accomplishing that goal - not if you can help it - right? Even if you have to break the opposition's ribs to get the desired outcome, then that's what it'll come to, right? Your opposite number too, knows the risk and is chanting the mantra: 'better him than me', just like you are, right? However as soon as the siren sounds and it's officially GAMEOVER, then all are mates, right? That is how it is for me and politics in Laos. I only show disgust where politics are concerned. In person I'm quite easy going and cordial (and just as randy) - as you know by now. As soon as I hear of this kind of injustice, then it gets the blood boiling and adrenaline pumping. I'm sure you'd be upset if you were on the recieving end. |

Well, that was an excellent response from you, Larb Dip. Hopefully you will keep to your resolution. As far as politics is concerned, I am rather conflicted on the issue and think others should be also. We have been raised in countries with a two party democratic system and tend to think that is the only kind of democratic system worth having, despite the fact that George Washington himself was opposed to having two parties constantly at each others' throats. You, Lao Democratic and many others on this board have consistently expressed your desire that Laos modernize and develop quickly and becomes a prosperous nation where all its people can enjoy a good standard of living. For that to happen, all that is needed is for things to continue to develop as they have been doing for the past 15 or so years, during which Laos has achieved 7% to 10% for much of the period and many of the Millennium Development Goals (MDG), including universal primary school enrollment look to be in sight. Also, the government's aim of removal of Laos from the list of 'Least Developed Countries' is likely to be achieved within the next few years. All of this is on track under the current system. However, if you want to stir up anti-government feelings, pursue the path of 'hating the commies' and try to get rid of them, you could support a movement to do so resulting in a civil war which could last years. As a result, all foreign investment in Laos would stop, development would grind to a halt and all the progress that has been made so far would be lost, with the country being set back 20 years in terms of development and living standards. I don't think it would be worth it, and I don't think it is what you want either. The system here is not perfect, but it's a hell of a lot better than the systems in most of the countries of the world. It continues to get better year by year, and we can each play our own small part in helping it to get better. But without hateful rhetoric and violence. Just my view. Old Man |

I only want to see peace and prosperity in Laos. I supported the government development policy. I'm not a politicians, but still prefer democracy in Laos any day.
Living in the U.S most of my life my point of view is a little different. I like the freedom of speech, press and religion. I like the jobs, opportunity, and the rule of law here. Laos can be better. Laos can be like Singapore. :) 8-) |
